Oh reply to the guy above you are totally correct of course historically.Jesus was born in September not December.The church adopted December 25th as the time to celebrate Christ birth as it was the time pagans celebrated the mid winter god's.The church further then adopted things such as the Christmas tree that to pagans represented life and nature.The church historically has always been good at doing this for example close to where I live here in the south of England there is a 700 year old church that now lays in ruins as the village 500 years ago was wiped out but the great plague or black death as it was also known as ( ' Knowlton church and rings ' check it out on the net )it sits within ancient rings from the time of Stonehenge and in the corner is a yew tree which is now actively used by pagans as a shrine and place of worship.The point is this ancient site was originally a place of pagan worship but was taken over or adopted by the church as a place of worship by building a church in the centre of the site ( a practice you can find happened all over the United Kingdom when Christianity began to take hold across the country 800 years ago )and yet now the church building is a ruin and the pagans are actively using this site once again for their worship.My opinion is Christmas which was invented by the church to combat the pagan festival of winter has gone the same way its now for the most part a western materialistic event that has nothing to do with the real meaning of Christmas Jesus Christ his birth,life,death and indeed should be not celebrated one day a year but 365 days !
Amen ! In the Uk yesterday on Boxing Day people spent £748 million in the shops.Christmas for most people in the west is all about materialism,how many more things can I buy and add to my already empty,pointless lifestyle ! The whole western Christmas celebration makes me feel totally sick,it's devoid of the true meaning of Christmas the birth,death and resurrection of Jesus Christ born a babe in a manger,lived 33 and a half years as all man and yet all God to die on a cross for mankind's sin that they might become born again and not only live a great life in this world but have eternal life in Christ.Christmas is not about the madness of shopping before and after Christmas just to get a high on the amount you have saved on yet another worthless piece of clothing,new pair of shoes to go with all the others you have or the latest smart television or whatever but Christmas is all about Jesus the only one who can fill your empty hole deep inside and truly give you life and life in abundance ! Jesus is for life not just christmas !
