I am sorry that you do not believe in God or in the devil.
I am a Catholic. I don't believe that it is a sin to drink or smoke in moderation, although I don't smoke for health reasons.
If I commit a serious sin and go to Confession to confess my sin to a Catholic priest, I must have a sincere intention of avoiding that sin in future in order to get absolution.
If the priest has reason to believe that I am not sincere about this, he can refuse absolution.
