Just FYI, this link shows the Eliza program which pretty much started it all. An interesting read and it was a program that kept the kiddies amazed for hours.
The current AI started in the 80's with a new train of thought on it. I was following and talking with a UK expert in the theory then. What has blossomed from their brainchild is something that cannot be contained. As lazy as most humans are, they allow more and more AI to control things. Think Terminator and your fairly on target. They were not mobile before, but that certainly has changed. They come in all shapes and sizes and can do ANYTHING a human can, but faster and more efficient. The nano technology now is even more fearsome. Think Borg on that one. Hawking just died but left a disturbing warning regarding existing tech.
