Also, most of the standard bananas Americans eat are the Cavendish banana. This is a sub-species of banana that has been bred and re-bred and is now wildly susceptible to disease. There is a HUGE problem in that large percentages of Cavendish bananas die due to disease. So that may be a factor in your not being able to grow them.
