Ron Paul has been receiving large donations consistently, and at last count had a war chest at least the equivalent of McCain's. There's an enormous groundswell of popular support for a man like Paul - especially in contrast to the tweedledums and tweedledees from the major parties - and I have little doubt that he could acquire an infusion of cash that would continue to make him a player. This guy is not Ralph Nader or some unknown Green Party candidate.
I'm not sure you've been monitoring Ron's contributions in recent months, Goose, but until now they've been newsworthy - even on news stations that generally hesitate to even mutter his name. That would be scarcely the tip of the iceberg if he would continue his campaign, imo. As it is, Paul left his supporters hanging, in my view. The Repub debates should've been merely a stepping stone to an independent campaign (since he never had a ghost's chance of winning the Repub nomination, and everyone knew that).
Princess, I'm not sure at all why he or anyone would think the Repubs, as currently constituted, deserve respect.
Also, no such thing as has been "proven" ( if you vote for an independent, your vote is going to the front runner). At most, one could argue that such has occurred in the past, and thus there was, arguably, a tendency for such a thing to occur again.
Again, Ross Perot was polling ahead of Clinton and Bush until he foolishly dropped the ball. Ron has a better popular foundation that Perot, and is vastly more knowledgeable both politically and philosophically than Perot ever was, as well being a much nicer guy.
I think Ron would get in the debates...unless the media continues its extraordinary blackout of him (the news shows only run a story on him when something completely unignorable occurs, such as his almost unprecedented internet money-raising events). WIthout all those cardboard Repubs, he would stand out nicely, I think, against the likes of establishment signatories such as Hillary and Obama.
A third party guy can't get in the debates and doesn't stand a chance? Does anyone here remember Ross Perot? If he hadn't wimped out when he did, he might've been the next president, not Clinton. He was polling extremely high until he dropped out, and was never able to recapture his momentum.
I think Ron Paul has a far stronger basic constituency than Perot did - and is a FAR better man to boot.
Ron Paul should run as an independent - I think that should've been his clear strategy all along.
Imagine people being confronted with McCain and Obama/Hillary - versus Ron Paul. The choice would be technocolor-clear, imo. You got obvious speakers of the good-old-boy network on one side and a person with incontrovertible integrity and a new, coherent vision on the other.
I'd really like to see people face that choice. I think Ron Paul would have a real chance in that contest.
Though...43...ahem! Wow, man, you're really getting up there!
Seriously, you're little more than a young whippersnapper, still wet behind the ears, Robert. I have a feeling the best is yet to come for you (in fact, it may be heading in your general direction as we speak )
Have a good one, tomorrow, Robert! Hope to see you in the forums at some point...
Damn, Dana, that was real interesting...but now I'm wondering if I have to change the transmission oil or something. Well, maybe later - got a basketball game coming on -
I sincerely doubt that being good-looking makes it harder to find a date, Jus. Everything being equal, I'm fairly sure it's an advantage.
One problem I've observed - and this applies more to good-looking women - is that they have to work harder to weed out the chaff from the seed, so to speak. They may get more attention, in other words, but then they have to find the guy who wants them for the right reasons (which can't exclusively be their looks).
I imagine handsome men may face a similar quandary, though they can probably ameliorate the problem somewhat by being the aggressor - that is, more proactive than most women are in selecting their "target."
You can trust completely when you've finally decided you are loved completely, I think. Well, maybe not completely, but *fundamentally* (there's always some little secret or secrets that other people hold back, but you can still rely on them fundamentally if they love you).
It's what's for...um, dinner? Speaking of which, I'm starting to get damn hungry in here, Luscious. I keep getting my head stuck in the bedroom door trying to get to the kitchen (I'm thinking if I ever get out of here I'd better bake some humble pie as an antidote if this ever happens again).
Well damn, JB, so that's been the problem! I've been trapped in my room all day, trying to figure out why everytime I attempt to leave my head keeps slamming into the sides of the door. Tried removing the hinges, and all I achieved was a stupendous headache trying to squeeze through...
So if any of you kind ladies would care to say something to cool my ego down a bit I'd truly appreciate it!
Detente, come on, man, who invited your handsome mug into this dialogue? I was desperately trying to get something straight with Rock. Ah, well. I guess I'd better shamble back to my thread and find out what fate the people there have decided for me, and let you young people settle the Rock situation here...
It would be fun, JB, I'm sure. I'd love to take you for a spin on my yacht (air mattress that I fastened a small sail in the center of...works great on the lakes around here anyway).
