the Mayan claendar was based on astronomy and their level of thinking was far advanced and i would say complex. So, if you go by dooms day predictions of nostradarmus and many religions , its supposed to be after the WWIII has begun . Cutting this short, i am quite sure none of us will be alive to see it.
The end of the world has been predicted by different people and in different religions. One thing sure is common that there is going to be one and its going to be a gradual event where in a series of catastrophic events are supposedly going to occur wiping the human race. Apparently there will be survivors to start all over again.
As per the Mayan prophecy, as fas as i remember correctly , the date coincides with the end of the Mayan calendar and redeeming the world of sin and everything is what the day brings.
