I know we didn't but just because something else caused a crisis a long time ago doesn't mean that we should assume we won't cause it this time around by our actions or inaction.
I don't hold a brief for Al but at least I give him some credit for trying and for waking up as we all should. I can't remember 55 million years ago but we probably don't want to repeat the experience if we can help avoid it.
I suppose the Academy felt that significant work to promote awareness of the importance of protecting the enviroment counted as a peaceful act. Stopping a war is good but more a short term thing.
Sorry. It wasn't personal...but surely you can't deny that things are going wrong in the climate....as seen by accelerating melting ice and a significant increase in extreme weather incidents. I don't dispute your clipping though there are always different theories about - good and bad - but I feel the hostility to the evidence in some quarters is not based on the evidence itself but on political and economic factors.
I'm sure there is a natural cycle....but things have accelerated a lot!! and the scientists are pretty much unanimous except for those working for petrol companies and the like.
