Let me just again give a quote from my previous post on GNH:
While conventional development models stress economic growth as the ultimate objective, the concept of GNH claims to be based on the premise that true development of human society takes place when material and spiritual development occur side by side to complement and reinforce each other.
Why do I have a feeling of being threatened? Or of you being threatened by me? What am I afraid of? What are you afraid of?
My reason for starting this thread is simply to bring about a discussion about the way we live and the choices we make, and the consequences of those choices. I too believe that greed is a conscious choice. So if greed hinders good quality of life, why do we choose to be greedy? Maybe that's what we're afraid of? Questioning our behaviour? "Surely *I* am not doing anything wrong!" Or?
It's so easy to admit that the world is quite screwed up, but not to admit that the way *I* live has anything to do with it...
Greed is a limiting factor, as far as I can conclude from several posts here. But what is greed? Is it an independent power, like a "natural law"? Or a more or less conscious choice?
Gross National Happiness (GNH) is an attempt to define quality of life in more holistic and psychological terms than Gross National Product.
The term was coined by Bhutan's King Jigme Singye Wangchuck in 1972. It signaled his commitment to building an economy that would serve Bhutan's unique culture based on Buddhist spiritual values. Like many worthy moral goals it is somewhat easier to state than to define, nonetheless, it serves as a unifying vision for the Five Year planning process and all the derived planning documents that guide the economic and development plans to the country.
While conventional development models stress economic growth as the ultimate objective, the concept of GNH claims to be based on the premise that true development of human society takes place when material and spiritual development occur side by side to complement and reinforce each other. The four pillars of GNH are the promotion of equitable and sustainable socio-economic development, preservation and promotion of cultural values, conservation of the natural environment, and establishment of good governance.
I just read about this on Wikipedia. Makes a whole lot of sense to me.
I don't feel offended in any way Deb, and it's nice to know that you have friends here on CS or elsewhere to talk to when it feels a bit tough. We all need that. But you have, in my opinion, kept all of us quite updated through your threads. That's how I know about your problems, and that's why I also expressed my best wishes for you...
Wow, I must propose that to the CS staff: Please give us the option of having a headless picture, maybe just a drawn neck, for the really paranoid members!
But seriously, that's the result you faceless ones are going to end up with! And then what's the point?
But seriously again, are you scared someone will see your picture and start stalking you because of your hypnotizing looks? I mean, why would you be stalked?
and how many threads have there been about this before?
some are married/engaged/involved/whatever some have "sensitive jobs" some are ugly some have multiple profiles some are perhaps worried they will be judged by their ethnicity/disability/whatever

Side by side, people.
It's not a question of either/or!
