The Libyan deputy ambassador to the United Nations has called on the country's ruler, Muammar Gaddafi, to step down and face trial over "war crimes and genocide."


"He has to leave as soon as possible. He has to stop killing the Libyan people," Ibrahim Dabbashi told CNN on Monday.

"The Libyan people have been patient enough for the last 42 years and I think he has to give up and he has to leave the country as soon as possible," Dabbashi added.

Speaking to the state-funded BBC, the Libyan official also said, "I think it is the end of Colonel Gaddafi, it is a matter of days, whether he steps down or the Libyan people will get rid of him anyway.”

"Certainly the best scenario is to have him before the court, to prosecute him and to know from him everything about the crimes he committed before…or the genocide he is committing now or the disappearance of certain important personalities... and all the other crimes he has committed during the 42 years in power,” he went on to say.

The Libyan mission staff at the United Nations has already written a letter, calling on Gaddafi to renounce power, Dabbashi said.

"I call on all countries of the world also to not permit Gaddafi to escape inside their territories and I call on them to watch carefully any amount of money which may be flown outside of Libya," he urged.

The International Federation for Human Rights said earlier that as many as 400 pro-democracy protesters have so far been killed in the popular Libyan revolution.

Egyptian cleric: Kill Gaddafi

A top Egyptian cleric has called on Libyan soldiers who can shoot Libya's unpopular Leader Muammar Gaddafi not to hold their fire to free the nation of his oppression.


Yusuf al-Qaradawi, viewed as the spiritual leader of the Egyptian opposition Muslim Brotherhood, made the call on Monday through a fatwa (religious decree) against the 42-year-long head of state.

"Whoever in the Libyan Army is able to shoot a bullet at Mr. Gaddafi should do so," he told the Qatar-based news channel al-Jazeera.

Libya has been swept by pro-democracy protests inspired by popular revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, which toppled the countries' presidents.

Such killing would "rid Libya of him," said Qaradawi. The scholar, who also heads the International Union for Muslim Scholars, returned to Egypt after three decades in exile following the revolution.

Gaddafi's government has deployed fighter jets to open fire on the demonstrators to prevent what appears to be an imminent revolution.

Forces loyal to Gaddafi are also said to have used live rounds against protesters amid reports, pointing to the arrival of planeloads of armed foreign mercenaries in the capital, Tripoli.

Libyan protesters, however, have reportedly managed to seize several cities.

The International Federation for Human Rights says as many as 400 people have so far been killed during the protests.

Qaradawi also told Libyan soldiers "not to obey orders to strike at your own people," and urged Libyan ambassadors around the world to dissociate themselves from Gaddafi's regime.

Oil from the BP spill remains stuck on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, according to a top scientist.

Samantha Joye has video and slides that she says demonstrate the oil isn't degrading as hoped and has decimated life on parts of the sea floor.

That report is at odds with a recent report by the BP spill compensation czar that said nearly all will be well by 2012.

At a science conference in Washington today, Joye, a professor at the University of Georgia aired early results of her December submarine dives around the BP spill site.

She went to places she had visited in the summer and expected the oil and residue from oil-munching microbes would be gone by then. It wasn't.

'There's some sort of a bottleneck we have yet to identify for why this stuff doesn't seem to be degrading,' Joye told the American Association for the Advancement of Science annual conference in Washington.

Her research and those of her colleagues contrasts with other studies that show a more optimistic outlook about the health of the gulf, saying microbes did great work munching the oil.

'Magic microbes consumed maybe 10 per cent of the total discharge, the rest of it we don't know,' Joye said, later adding: 'there's a lot of it out there'.

And a Department of Energy scientist, doing research with a grant from BP from before the spill, said his examination of oil plumes in the water column show that microbes have done a 'fairly fast' job of eating the oil.

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab scientist Terry Hazen said his research differs from Joye's because they looked at different places at different times.

Joye's research was more widespread, but has been slower in being published in scientific literature.

In five different expeditions, the last one in December, Joye and colleagues took 250 cores of the sea floor and travelled across 2,600 square miles.

Some of the locations she had been studying before the oil spill on April 20 and said there was a noticeable change. Much of the oil she found on the sea floor - and in the water column - was chemically fingerprinted, proving it comes from the BP spill.

Joye is still waiting for results to show other oil samples she tested are from BP's Macondo well.

'I've been to the bottom. I've seen what it looks like with my own eyes. It's not going to be fine by 2012,' Joye told The Associated Press.

'You see what the bottom looks like, you have a different opinion.'

Noaa chief Lubchenco said 'even though the oil degraded relatively rapidly and is now mostly but not all gone, damage done to a variety of species may not become obvious for years to come.'

Lubchenco today also announced the start of a Gulf restoration planning process to get the Gulf back to the condition it was on April 19, the day before the spill.

That programme would eventually be paid for BP and other parties deemed responsible for the spill.

This would be separate from an already begun restoration programme that would improve all aspects of the Gulf, not just the oil spill, but has not been funded by the government yet, she said.

The new program, which is part of the Natural Resources Damage Assessment program, is part of the oil spill litigation - or out-of-court settlement - in which the polluters pay for overall damage to the ecosystem and efforts to return it to normal.

This is different than paying compensation to people and businesses directly damaged by the spill.

The process will begin with public meetings all over the region.

The government of Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi has deployed fighter jets to open fire on pro-democracy protesters, who have taken control of a number of cities.


Pro-democracy protesters in Libya have seized several cities, including Benghazi, Sirte and in the border town of al-Zawiya, reports said on Saturday.

The Air Force now has dispatched fighter jets to attack protesters amid a revolution that appears imminent.

On the ground, forces loyal to Gaddafi are reportedly using live rounds against protesters.

This is while Planeloads of armed foreign mercenaries have reportedly landed in Tripoli.

Meanwhile in Tripoli, protesters attacked the headquarters of the state television station overnight and set fire to the offices of the People's Committees -- the mainstay of the government.

Reports also say that the security forces killed scores of people in the country's second largest city, Benghazi, in just a few hours.

The International Federation for Human Rights says as many as 400 people have been killed so far in the revolution.

The developments come as popular revolutions continue to sweep the US-backed autocratic regimes across the Middle East and North Africa.

In the meantime, there have been unconfirmed reports that Gaddafi has fled the country.

NASA and the ESA agree, and so does the Russian space agency, Roscosmos—the sun is headed for a Grand Solar Minimum and a Grand Cooling will commence.

The aptly named Grand Cooling is exactly what it implies: the sun is going to cool. That cooling will also cool off the Earth. It will last from 30 to 50 years.

What exactly does global cooling mean? Well for one, Al Gore was sure wrong! The Earth isn't going to warm, it's going to get colder. Much colder. So cold a little or full-blown Ice Age will ensue. As a matter of fact, some scientists claim we're already in the early stages of an Ice Age.
Maybe the Nobel Committee and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences should ask Mr. Gore to return his awards.

Dutch Professor Cees de Jager, a prominent astronomer and solar expert, forcefully asserts that we the world is indeed entering for a long period of very low solar activity. The professor and his colleagues are certain Earth is heading for a "long Grand Minimum"—defined as either a Solar Wolf-Gleissberg or a Maunder Minimum—"not shorter than a century." His 2010 paper, "The forthcoming Grand Minimum of solar activity," outlined the extended period of time that the diminished solar radiation would affect the Earth.

The Maunder minimum lasted from 1645 to 1715. It was marked by a period of general cooling over the entire planet. The Minimum coincided with the coldest year of the Little Ice Age.

The astronomer, formerly the head of the Utrecht University Observatory in the Netherlands, has laid out the basis for the upcoming Ice Age.

Another very respected scientist, the late Dr. Theodor Landscheid, founder of the Schroeter Institute for Research in Cycles of Solar Activity in Waldmuenchen, Germany, was considered a giant in the field of climate research.

A prodigious author of many research papers, leader of studies, and the author of several books, Landscheidt investigated the Gleissberg Minimum. He rejected the now proven flawed science of anthropogenic global warming and even the concept of long-term global warming itself.

"Contrary to the IPCC's speculation about man-made global warming as high as 5.8° C within the next hundred years," he said, "a long period of cool climate with its coldest phase around 2030 is to be expected."

Referring to the sun's cycles, he pointed to their correlation with other periods of prehistory when ice spread across the northern hemisphere. "It can be seen that the Gleissberg minimum around 2030 and another one around 2200 will be of the Maunder Minimum type accompanied by severe cooling on Earth."

A few of the doctor's many papers on the sun's relation to Earth's climate include "Solar activity: A dominant factor in climate dynamics," and "New confirmation of strong solar forcing of climate." Both show the sun's relationship to Earth's climate and abrupt changes in that climate during periods of transition from warming to cooling and back to warming.

It is unfortunate that Al Gore's inconvenient truth turned out to be a fallacy. Global warming is much preferable to the climate the Earth actually seems on the verge of slipping into within a few short years.

Depending on the severity of the Ice Age, agriculture could be severely affected and millions could perish.

Associated Press= CAIRO (AP) — Military and ruling party officials say President Hosni Mubarak will speak to the nation soon and meet the demands of protesters. Protesters are insisting he step down immediately.

Military officials say the armed forces' supreme council has been meeting all day long and will issue a communique shortly that they say will meet the protesters' demands.

The ruling party chief, Hossan Badrawy, tells The Associated Press he expects Mubarak to address the nation and make a announcement that will satisfy their demands.

Obama administration issues hundreds of health care exemption waivers to friends

If Obamacare is everything the administration claims it to be, then why are government officials secretly handing out exemption waivers to friends and insiders? A Washington Times report explains that since the health care bill was passed last year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued at 733 exemptions-and-counting to friends of the White House in order to shelter them from the massive insurance rate hikes that the rest of America will get stuck paying, that is if the bill is not overturned or declared unconstitutional.

It began with 111 waivers, which gradually rose to 222, and that has now topped 733. Recipients include various cities and states, businesses, and unions, including the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). SIEU, of course, contributed $27 million to the Obama campaign back in 2008, so perhaps the union’s waiver was a friendly “thank you” gift.

According to the report, more than 500 of the 733 waivers were quietly issued back in December, but were not revealed until after the recent State of the Union address. In fact, the reality of such waivers has been largely hush-hush from the administration of supposed “transparency” all along, probably due to the fact that they expose the health care scam for what it truly is.
One of the cornerstones of the health care bill is Section 2711 of the Public Health Service Act, which outlines an increase in the annual cap of insurance benefits. On the surface, this sounds like a good thing, and it is something that the Obama administration has been hailing. But what is overlooked is the fact that someone will have to foot the bill for this increase which, based on the administration’s actions, equals everyone who is not a “friend” of the White House.

Several U.S. states are now in the process of declaring the whole of Obamacare void, including Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, and Maine. And U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson declared Monday that the bill is unconstitutional, making him the second federal judge to have ruled against its validity.

Republican leaders back Obama administration on Egypt
After an election year spent blasting President Obama, Obama's administration and the Democratic party, Republican leaders are voicing their support for the White House's handling of the poltiical crisis in Egypt.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace that he believes the administration is striking the right balance on Egypt, where a massive political uprising threatens President Hosni Mubarak's tenure and the future leadership of the country. "Our administration so far has handled this tense situation pretty well," Boehner said. Boehner agreed that listening to the people of Egypt while working with the government to bring about reform is the way forward.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) echoed Beohner's view on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"I don't have any criticism of President Obama or Secretary [of State Hillary] Clinton at this point," McConnell said. "It's important for U.S. officials "to speak as one voice during this crisis."

Clinton did the morning talk show rounds Sunday to reiterate the administration's support for a peaceful, orderly transition in Egypt, seeking to balance support for Egypt's current government, solidarity with the Egyptian people, and the pre-emption of a potential radical Islamic takeover.

Rank-and-file GOP lawmakers who, unlike Boehner and McConnell, do not automatically set the party's tone, have been freer in advising the administration on Egypt.

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) said in a statement supporting Mubarak Friday that the U.S. "must stand with her ally Egypt to preserve an imperfect government capable of reform; and prevent a tyrannical government capable of harm."

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union" that the United States should be "on the right side of history" and push more forcefully for human rights. McCain added that he wants to avoid "another Tiananmen Square," referring the 1989 civilian uprising in China that produced mass bloodshed amid a government crackdown.
