Just be honest and realistic. If someone catches your eye and you think you'd be a good match then send a message commenting on what parts of their profile you liked and what you might have in common etc. Leave it at that; they'll probably read your profile and if there's a spark they'll mail you. If not, then I doubt there's anything more you could have said in your email that would make them think otherwise.
Hi all, I guess this is a question for the girls on here, I'm fairly new to the site and I'm just wondering how many guys are on here? After filtering to location, age range etc I tend to get about two pages of suggested matches, and I'm not being insanely picky. I'm curious as I was on a paid-for site about a year ago (which was a hell of a lot less fun than here!) and it was something crazy like 8000 girls vs 150,000 guys from Ireland alone. Granted, those stats might include multiple different logins for the guys but it still seemed like a huge difference. There does seem to be more of a community-like feel on this site rather than just profile after profile of scammers, so I'm guessing the ratio must be much closer.

I'm reading several books at the moment; I'm always re-reading Money by Martin Amis, I'm working my way through The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen, a couple of books by Malcolm Gladwell, The Tipping Point and Blink, very interesting ideas and I always have some Bukowski on hand for when I'm drinking and want a laugh. On the subject of Cormac McCarthy, if you didn't like The Road then stay away from Blood Meridian. A great book but very difficult, it's like reading a book about someone else's dream while you're in a dream of your own. (I've been drinking!)
