RE: Say Anything

We’ve alerted millions of consumers that they can’t trust the mass media, regulatory agencies or the scientific establishment. If consumers or farmers want truthful information about food and farming they need to tune in to the alternative and social media. This alternative media includes the mass circulation newsletters, websites and Facebook pages of groups like Mercola.com, the Organic Consumers Association, Center for Food Safety, Food Democracy Now, Friends of the Earth, Pesticide Action Network, Moms Across America, Regeneration International, Seed Freedom and hundreds of others that refuse to regurgitate industry propaganda. We need to keep supporting the truth-seekers, like U.S. Right to Know, as they continue to expose Big Food’s dark secrets.

Bernie Sanders supporters are flocking to Jill Stein, the presumptive Green Party presidential candidate, with donations to her campaign exploding nearly 1000% after he endorsed Hillary Clinton. Stein salutes Sanders for the progressive populist movement he began and says it is up to her to carry the baton. Can she do it? Critics say her radical policies will not hold up to scrutiny. But supporters say they are just the medicine the economy needs.

Stein goes even further than Sanders on several key issues, and one of them is her economic platform. She has proposed a "Power to the People Plan" that guarantees basic economic human rights, including access to food, water, housing, and utilities; living-wage jobs for every American who needs to work; an improved "Medicare for All" single-payer public health insurance program; tuition-free public education through university level; and the abolition of student debt. She also supports the reinstatement of Glass-Steagall, separating depository banking from speculative investment banking; the breakup of megabanks into smaller banks; federal postal banks to service the unbanked and under-banked; and the formation of publicly-owned banks at the state and local level.

As with Sanders' economic proposals, her plan has been challenged as unrealistic. Where will Congress find the money?

But Stein argues that the funds can be found. Going beyond Bernie, she calls for large cuts to the bloated military budget, which makes up 55% of federal discretionary spending; and progressive taxation, ensuring that the wealthy pay their fair share. Most controversial, however, is her plan to tap up the Federal Reserve. Pointing to the massive sums the Fed produced out of the blue to bail out Wall Street, she says the same resources used to save the perpetrators of the crisis could be made available to its Main Street victims, beginning with the students robbed of their futures by massive student debt.

Corporate Money Defeats GMO Labeling—What Would Gandhi Do?

The deed is done. On Friday, July 29, 2016, President Obama signed a bill that was written by corporations, paid for by corporations and that serves no one in this country—except corporations.

S.764, known by its opponents as the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know) Act, preempts Vermont’s mandatory GMO labeling law and substitutes in its place a federal bill that, no matter how Obama and his Congress try to spin it, is not mandatory and does not require labels—at least not labels that anyone can read. Not to mention that most GMO ingredients will be exempt under this fake "law."

I could, once again, list all the reasons this bill fails consumers. But I and others have already done that countless times, to no avail. The bill is a sham, a slap in the face to the 90 percent of Americans who support labeling. It’s an attack on states’ rights. It’s another “gift” to Monsanto and Big Food.

And, for anyone who still harbored any doubt, S.764 is proof that our Democracy is broken, that our lawmakers answer to Corporate America, not to us, the people who elect them.

No surprise, the convention is history and it's now time for Hillary to roll on, business as usual.. frustrated

Hillary Clinton is growing cozier with the hydraulic fracturing industry, just months after she promised to heavily regulate it.

The Democratic Party's presidential candidate attended a $50,000 per place fundraiser in Aspen, Colorado on Tuesday, hosted by fracking magnate Charif Souaki. The event raised $650,000 for the campaign.

You've really guzzled down the Kool Aid, huh? You can delude yourself all you want, anyone with an iota of common sense can see she hasn't changed her spots, and never will. Just as Obama pushed for TPP, HRC will push for fracking. And TPP. And Monsanto, and Wall Street, etc. etc. etc.

RE: PICTURE THREAD - another try...

I think there may be a bit of bias as Galrads says. My point was to expand on statistics used for the chart posted earlier.. smile

tip hat

RE: PICTURE THREAD - another try...

1. Who we’re fact-checking

Through June 29, 2016, we’ve fact-checked Trump more than any other candidate — 158 times. That’s to be expected. Trump made himself more available on television in the early part of his campaign than his Democratic or Republican rivals. Trump also participated in more debates (11 by our count) than either of the top Democratic contenders Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

2. The candidates on the Truth-O-Meter

While the 2016 campaign has been criticized as being fact-free, the most awarded rating to the presidential candidates has actually been Mostly True.

But don’t read too much into that.

Of the 650 claims we’ve fact-checked, it’s almost equally split among claims that rate True, Mostly True and Half True, and claims rating Mostly False, False or Pants on Fire.

3. Clinton vs. Trump

The two presumptive nominees are the two most fact-checked candidates of the campaign. But their records are markedly different. Remember, these rankings only include the statements we’ve fact-checked after Clinton and Trump formally entered the race for president.

4. Whose pants are on fire?

Trump has more statements rated Pants on Fire, 30, than the 21 other candidates for president we’ve fact-checked this cycle combined.

Second on the list? Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, with four Pants on Fire claims. Bernie Sanders has yet to receive a Pants on Fire rating in the 2016 election.

5. More about Trump

Ninety-five of the 158 fact-checks of claims made by Trump have been rated False or Pants on Fire. Add in Mostly False and that accounts for 123 (78 percent) of all of Trump’s fact-checked claims.

60.13% of Donald Trump claims that have been rated False or Pants on Fire.

2.53% of Donald Trump claims rated True since he started his campaign.

6. More about Clinton

Just 16 of Clinton’s 120 rated statements ended up as False or Pants on Fire. By contrast, 53 percent of the statements we fact-checked were rated True or Mostly True.

13.3% of claims made by Hillary Clinton rated False or Pants on Fire.

13.3% of claims made by Hillary Clinton rated True during the 2016 campaign.

7. So how do we do this?

It’s another question we get all the time, and the answer is part of what makes PolitiFact special. We use only on-the-record sources and list all of the sources we consult as part of any fact-check. While the author of a fact-check recommends a rating on our Truth-O-Meter, the decision is left to a panel of three editors who vote like a jury. Majority rules.

It’s the same process since we started in 2007 covering the 2008 presidential campaign, and the same process we’ve used for each and every of our nearly 14,000 fact-checks published.

This video, which was made for our sister site PunditFact, does a good job of explaining the process in a bit more detail.

Interesting to note that every one on that chart has been rated pants on fire... except Bernie Sanders.. popcorn

Mission Accomplished at DNC, Clinton Hires Wasserman Schultz for Top Post

Clinton responds to party chair's resignation on Sunday by thanking "longtime friend" for her service at DNC and immediately naming her as honorary chair of her own campaign

Though many progressives immediately responded by saying her ouster would not be enough to undo the damage her leadership has done, Democratic National Committee Chairperson Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced her resignation on Sunday afternoon, saying she would relinquish her post immediately following the party's national convention which begins Monday.

Her announcement comes just two days after a batch of leaked internal DNC emails showed evidence that party officials during the primary season had attempted to tip the scales in favor of Hillary Clinton against the insurgent campaign of Bernie Sanders. The emails appear to show top officials contemplating how they can undermine Sanders by pushing stories about his Jewish faith and questioning his ability to keep his campaign organized.

As journalist and radio host Sonali Kolhatkar tweeted:

Wikileaks managed to accomplish what many have attempted and failed to do for months now.
— Sonali Kolhatkar (@SonaliKolhatkar) July 24, 2016

Following Sunday's news, however, Clinton responded with a statement thanking her "longtime friend" for her service to the party and, seemingly without irony, announced that Wasserman Schultz would now serve as her campaign’s honorary chair.

Once again, it is hard to discern:

Is Trump the Republican nominee in order to guarantee Clinton is elected?
Or is Clinton the Democratic nominee in order to guarantee Trump is elected?

RE: PICTURE THREAD - another try...

Promoting candidates is one of the committee’s functions. But favoring one candidate over another, in the midst of a heated primary race, is against the rules—if you believe Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Had the committee promoted Sanders and Clinton equally, there would be no damning evidence that party officials broke their vow of neutrality. But that simply isn’t the case.

RE: PICTURE THREAD - another try...

In a recent VICE News report, reporter Pete Voelker described seeing firsthand how the Clinton campaign had rented a campaign office within the local Democratic Party office in Nevada, a crucial early primary state. Indeed, both the Clinton field office and the Carson City Democratic Party list the same address: 502 E. John Street.

“With its walls papered with Hillary Clinton signs and the seats carefully arranged for the Hillary for America ribbon-cutting, it was hard to tell where the Democratic Party’s office ended and the Clinton office began. There were a few signs referencing Obama and the Affordable Care Act, but as far as I could tell, there weren’t any that mentioned the two other Democrats running for president.”

However, Sanders campaign spokeswoman Joan Kato said no local Democratic Party officials offered any office space to their Nevada operations.

“None of our offices are located within the Nevada State Democratic Party or any of their affiliate offices,” Kato told VICE News.

Surely you know by now what we suspected all along. Corrupt as in the DNC not playing by the rules, trying to minimize Sanders and favoring Clinton.. hmmm

RE: PICTURE THREAD - another try...

You might be able to tell that I am well aware, though extremely disappointed with the the corrupt DNC, and when the time comes to vote I certainly will. Although I will reserve and preserve my right to cast my vote in protest rather than in support of the preferred candidate in a rigged system. And I am prepared to vote for Jill Stein.. smile
