i use a vlf detector, which stands for very low frequency.its a ground cancelling detector, that works on conductivity.they will locateany metalwith a conductive surfacewithin18inches totwo ftof theground surface.mine is an old one, a whites 6000d which i bought in the 80s,i,m still using it, but its no where near as good as the new detectors, as it doesnt do what you want,it doesnt pick up tiny pieces on the edge of the creeks.most of the new detectors you can submerge the head onlyand slowly scan a creek bed in shallow watwer ,but its hard to find any decent pieces that are worth any money, and a lot of times the detector wont respond to the tiny pieces..You can get a small gold wheel powered by a battery that you can put in your ute,its onlya couple of feet long, and you sift a small piece of gravel from between rocks orcrevices, put it on to the gold wheel ,and as it turns arouind, the gold if present will get caughtin the little spiralson the wheel.i had one that got stolen fom big river when i was camping there,we got four ouces of gold in a yuear with one of them.i think thats about 5000 bucks worth now.if you ring up the miners den in whitehorse rd mitcham,on 98731244,they wil give yo the best advice on the newer more acurate detectors.the newer gold wheels, actually come with a small bilge pump.and you can retrieve a lot moreprecious stones and gold in larger quantities.using a metal detector only is generally a waste of time on the creeks i reckon.better to save that for use on the gold diggings and old mills that are scattered around the country, ive found some fantastic stuff,an old bayonet 1907made by wilkinson sword for a 303,still with the scabbard all rotted stuck to iti cleeaned it up and hung it on the wall.i found that in jericho the old town that burned down in the 39 bush fires, and heaps of small nuggetts in diggings in western vic.give that store a call they might sell you a second hand detector.i know the gold wheel sells for about 800 bucks, pretty dear but you get it bac .and you find precious gems as well
martia you can read my mind haha.id love to hav apartner as long as i can stil do the things i like ,and yes it would be twicw the pleasure with someone .mmmm that farmer wants awife scenario is worth thinkin about lol
we usedto use one of the clay water purifiers that are still on the market,so they must be good, and they seemed to take out the impurities that are in the rain water asit runs down the roof, which contains bird droppings and dust etc
theyre nice to keep.as long as you hav a heap of room to store em haha.i keep a black pebble in my pocket for good luck, hasnt brung me much luck with the women lol
