RE: Have you met anyone famous?

As usual I have to live vicariously thru others .... moping
This time it's thru my brother and I will share a cool story with you guys.

My brother has only ever wanted to do two things in his life..
Be in the Army and/ or be a Montreal Canadien Player. He's a great hockey player...pretty good goalie but decided he'd do better in the Army. Joined four years ago and found himself in Afghanistan last winter. The boys had boards built and would set them up on the Helipad on the base in Khandahar and play shinny every morning before breakfast. One morning in January...5am... they are playing, My brother chases the puck into the corner, from behind him he hears someone catching up to him. He turns and looks to see Guy Lafleur in desert camo coming at him full bore. He told me it was one of the most surreal moments in his life. TO be on a helipad..in afghanistan..playing shinny hockey ... with Guy LaFleur. Too cool..
Even cooler was when he know he was gonna take a hit... He put his elbow up to block Guy .. Gets hit and they both go into the boards knocking them down. Then they went for breakfast.

Thats my long-winded addition to this thread...Cheers!

RE: The Moral Compass...

hey tigger!

Just one comment on respect... If we all wait for people to earn our respect... hell will freeze over. If we can all start with respect first, I think we would move along alot quicker. Too many kids are given to go ahead to be indifferent first. Just my humble opinion too!hug

RE: The Moral Compass...

It does seem to amaze me that the people that suffered at the hands of parents who could do such heinous acts such as
-ground their children
-speak harshly in public to a misbehaving child
-Take away privleges like bike-riding and t.v
-smack the hand of a child who touches dangerous items

These people survived such crimes against childhood and grew up to be such upstanding self-righteous so-and-so's, and now tell us that if we continue to raise them with such a heavy hand we'll be over run with deliquents. Now when It has back-fired to a point where people are afraid of their own children, those old school survivors criticize the new generation of parents that they created.

I am a parent of a preteen...He is a respectful, kind-hearted, all-round great kid. And surprisingly enough he's popular too. I hope that I have done what I can do to help him and his younger sister grow into decent adults. I also hope that he is strong enough not to be influenced by those children who have been raised differntly then he. And, if he chooses the wrong path, he has been taught now that he will be responsible for his actions, and that he has the power to right his own wrongs.

I was a daycare provider for ten years, I have seen all sorts of parenting techniques. ones that work and others that don't. My biggest piece of advice is RESPECT and LOVE. Give it and demand it in return, in all aspects and at all ages. There are really great parents out there. (and I have probably bored them and everybody else to tears by nowsleep Sorry)

Breaking the Ice...

Hi everyone! been checking out the forums for a couple of weeks and have surprised myself at how much of a wallflower I can be. Haven't posted much..didn't know how or what to say...but I have found myself in a fix.
My brother and I are terribly competitive and have always found little games to drive each other insane with.
I need your help with this newest one...it may be cheating but I have to put him in his place once in awhile and I am not that proud.

The game is :

Name bands or music artists with a color in the name.
He or I have probably touch on most of them but I thought I would let you all battle it out and I will look for new ones to hit him with...Good luck! Have fun ......
And here goes nothing!

Red Hot Chili Peppers

RE: Canada and it's role in the war

Thanks Pucks! He is a hero...always has been. And although I don't always agree with what our government and others do, I will support anyone who stands up for what they believe in. The men and women of our armed forces also have mixed emotions and opinions, however they conduct themselves accordingly and with grace and integrity. Many people have a habit of forming their ideas on misinformation or no information at all. I'll stop here because I could keep going on and on ...... and on. But for the grace of god (and/or whoever) I was born CANADIAN!

RE: Prayers for my mom please...

Tracy,

Sending strong prayers and hugs to your mom and family. They say you will never be given more than you can handle, I have questioned that in the past but came to know that your friends and family are those ones who help you carry the load. I am new to this whole atmosphere and am happy to see how quickly a person's circle of friends can widen and how quickly our burden's are shared. Good Luck!! hug

Ooops...heeheehee...I'll try that again

When in doubt, make a fool of yourself. There is a microscopically thin line between being brilliantly creative and acting like the most gigantic idiot on earth. So what the hell, Leap
