RE: An almost serious question re: Einstein and the speed of light!

That sounds more like the alternative Big Bang Theory....Matter/Anti-matter reaction during initial universe expansion.

RE: An almost serious question re: Einstein and the speed of light!

Only if the basic assumption is correct, that a photon has 0 mass. Mass can be described as a waveform at subatomic levels, caused by electromagnetic vibrations at a certain frequency. As the frequency increases, the "mass" decreases. This is how the photon achieves "c". Under normal conditions, a solid mass has a very low frequency waveform, making it unlikely to ever be capable of acceleration to light speed. All we need to do is figure out how to increase the subatomic waveform frequency in an object to decrease it's mass. Ideas anyone?

I'm with you on this one! I like a good sear on both sides, and hot in the middle. That first bite is almost as good as your first kiss.

RE: Vegans!

It is widely accepted that humans are designed to subsist on an omnivorous diet (even by organisations which actively promote vegetarianism). The ratio of fruits/vegetables/grains to meat should be around 80/20, but, I agree, due to conditioning, that we have flipped that around in reverse. Of course, individual taxonomy in humans varies greatly (unlike the rest of the animal kingdom), so the ratio is more flexible in regard to us; perhaps as far as a 50/50 split. In summary, there is no reason why any human could not subsist entirely on a -balanced- vegetarian diet and remain at peak health, but thankfully, we do have a choice. Conversely, a purely carnivorous diet will cause severe health problems. On a sidenote, most Vegans I have encountered, suffer from odd nutritional problems, probably due to the commonly held theory that "as long as I just eat vegetables, grains & fruits, I'll be healthy". It doesn't quite work that way.

Thanks Ab, for your always insightful, though sometimes inciteful (in a good way, lol!), synopses on various esoterica. I really enjoy reading your comments. Shake'em, wake'em, and make'em free!

RE: What is the best way to stop terrorism?

Stop it? Not likely. Once you've pissed off the populace, there's nowhere to go but upheaval, and it won't stop unless you're willing to do what is necessary to fully subjugate the culture, or get the frack out of their country. Ask the Romans. Ask the British.

Anyone a member of the SCA, ARMA, or anything similar?

Not exactly...The organisation (SCA) consists of a collection of like-minded people worldwide, that attempt, within the best of their abilities (and during their spare time), to recreate what life was like in a certain period of time in history (Pre 1000AD up to 1600AD). This includes all crafts, skills, occupations and trades, from the most lowly peasant up through the nobility. This includes the martial aspect as well, with tournaments and contests of skill at arms. For more info, see . ARMA is a training program for hand-to-hand & weapons martial arts of the past. For info on ARMA see .

A thing out of place in time, as would be a Buick in 14th century France, or a mounted knight in the 21st century.

You should get back into it if you enjoyed it. Most of the people I've met are so interesting, and forthright.

RE: The definition of dating? Some questions

I'd say that any social interaction in the form of a couple, after the initial meeting has taken place, with the intended purpose of furthering a romantic relationship, would be considered romantic "dating". It is, of course, possible to date platonically, i.e, with a good friend, which I do occasionally, with an ex-girlfriend. We dated romantically for almost 6 years, until it was clear that there were certain issues that we just could/would not compromise on, so we decided to "redefine" our relationship. It's all about being honest with yourself, and others. There's just no substitute for it.

RE: Can we Raise the Level of Discourse?

"The military has been able to fill its ranks without sacrificing quality, DoD's top personnel official told reporters. More than 60 percent of the recruits came from the top half of mental aptitude categories (a score of 50 or better on the ASVAB). More than 90 percent have a high school diploma, which is the best indicator that recruits will stay through their first enlistment."

Now, what that means, is that if you have the equivalent of a 6th grade education, the military thinks you're the cream of the crop. Keep in mind that the other 40% are abysmally low scores. That's not even taking into consideration that the -acceptable- score is lower & lower, the closer the job gets to toting a rifle and dodging bullets. When I was in recruiting, the Navy required a 38 minimum on the AFQT (a scaled percentile ranking score), Marines 32, Air Force 36, and the Army 18. That's 18 folks. Now, I think they're all in the low 30's with the Navy & Air Force bouncing back and forth with the highest required score (35 & 36 I believe). Still pretty scary. I served with those guys that ranked 38 on the AFQT; they were barely sentient.

We need to stop trying to police the world. We need to stop sticking our nose in everyone else's business in the interest of capitalism disguised as "spreading freedom".

RE: Are you sure?

I've thought about this to some extent. I have to trust that I receive honest analyses from close acquaintances and friends. The acquaintances are the best source, I believe, since there is less emotional commitment to muddy the waters. Then again, this just pertains to the common perception at differing levels of exposure that others receive to your personality. Most individuals, sadly, delve into introspection and self-analysis rarely, if ever at all. I try very hard to portray myself as what I actually feel that I am. This, consequently, has led to an obvious dearth in social prospects, since I refuse to pretend to be something which I am not. Then again, the few friends that I have made are steadfst and true.

Were you working on a specific type of reproduction (with the mail), or just something serviceable? And arrows too? Longbow?

I'm saving for a custom suit of 14th c. Italian transitional half plate with mail. I feel it was the peak of protection with maximum mobility. I've dressed out in a friend's rig, and there are really no words to describe the feeling.

RE: Whats Your Answer

Hmmm...I got it right too, but only because it was the only logical motive given all the facts, and using deductive reasoning with the available clues. I'll bet if you gave this question to a group of homicide detectives or profilers, they'd get it right too.

RE: Ever wonder...

...how something can be "New & Improved!"? If it's "New", then it's never existed before, if it's been "Improved", then you had to have something to make better in the first place.
