Depends on the person for me. I personally like the thought behind the gift. It makes me feel special when I know that someone selected a card specifically with me in mind and that they took some care in handwriting a note. I like to choose gifts that both reflect the personality and tastes of the receiver and that are meaningful coming from me.
I have resorted to a gift card for one person on my list though. She either returned, donated or stored everything I have ever given her - and I took great care in choosing well, listened for hints all year etc. This year I'll give her exactly what she wants...a gift card and another excuse to hit the mall. She will be thrilled and look at how thoughtful it is ...

If you are serious about looking at this astrological match then you really need to look at actual birth charts ... this stuff we find in books is just too general ...
One of the bdays is March 19-24 and the other between March 25-Apr 2 or One between March 19-24 and the other between April 11-18
However, you need to look at composite charts to see how your planets align astrologically.
Honestly though - you can make anything work - I wouldn't rule my life by this stuff ... just interesting reading and a heads-up about potential issues. If I click with someone I really don't care if is moon is squaring my venus ... er....well .... I might care about his moon
Some interesting research being done at the University level with plants and energy which are producing some promising results with grapes, roses and wheat crops so far. More resilient plants, higher yields ... results won't be published for a while but I've seen the fields and it is seriously impressive .. time will tell if they can pull enough verifiable data together.
I am not sure migene but quantum theorist views of pure consciousness might offer some explanation.
I have read a lot about the notions of pure consciousness, collective consciousness, and the interraction of energy but would not portend to be any sort of authority on it. I do like contemplating the questions they raise though.
I was part of an interesting experiment once. Pure filtered water was equally divided into several glass jars with lids. Different coloured theatre lighting gels were wrapped around each jar - red, orange, pink, yellow, orange, purple, blue, black . Then the jars were placed in direct sunlight for a couple of hours. The water in each jar had a distictly different taste after being charged in the sun - the only difference between them was the coloured plastic which wrapped the jar. ...and some of the differences in taste were not at all subtle and ran the gamut of sweet, bitter, metallic etc.
..just another one of those things that makes me go hmmmm
At the quantum level there is a whole world that makes no sense and that we can't see. I find the questions fascinating.

My resolution is to have more FUN
- learn to skate - welcome 40 in a unique way like a stay at the ice hotel ... brrrr - travel somewhere I've never been - try something I've never done
saw a panel discussion on this topic a while back ... doctors there said all they really need is the umbilical cord - why that is such a big deal is beyond me but people are making a big fuss about giving it up ... sheesh, after the baby is born, what else are you gonna do with it?
