with all due respect, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Religion like everything else depends on how you take/use it. To paraphrase 'I am Legend', religion is like a very fast car. In the hands of a criminal, it is potentially lethal, but it can do a lot of good in the hands of a policeman. There are MANY happy religious people, just as there are MANY happy non-believers, and vice versa.
Believing in a god/gods does not mean you don't take a responsibility for your life, it just means you believe in something greater than yourself and/or humanity. by suggesting god made you miserable, how is that taking responsibility?
PS:No Bible/Koran/Torah/religious book has ever in any way guaranteed that if you believe you will be happy. so many iconic religious figures (Paul, Job, Jesus, Moses, Buddah) suffered greatly. So where do people get the impression that they'll be millionaires if they believe?? Life sucks, don't blame it on your faith/lack thereof
