It's a matter of power-the U.N. has no army and so it relies on resolutions to get it's point across, and unless the major powers agree on a solution and enforce it, it won't become a reality.
Stevie Ray! Me too! My best friend Marta got to hang out and play softball with him and his band because her cousin Skip was their road manager for a time. I had a chance to see him at the Spectrum (in Phila.) in 1989 but couldn't make the trip. You can imagine how much I regret that now. What a loss....It's nice to hear back from you Bodhi-take care!
Bohdi, Yes, I have a nasty way of writing, and I'm working on it, but I DON'T think of myself as superior to you or anyone else. I get exasperated by certain repeating IDEA'S and spout off the wrong way. I'm Sorry about that. Your a good man, and I hope to be able to chat with you respectfully from now on. However, you owe me an apology for calling me an a**hole.... Besides, I see you play the guitar, do you like Neil Young by any chance?
Much of what you profess in opinions leans to the left side of political discourse. It is also what is taught as a sort of faith in most colleges. I'm not speaking of hard facts so much, but how they are interpreted and used politically. As I said earlier, there was far more gray area to the discovery of this country than what you MAY have been taught. I am neither republicrat or democan either, but I am a conservative. American Indians (the name that most prefer to be called by) are also free to leave their reservations. There is no doubt that the U.S. government broke many treaties, and deserves scorn for doing so.
That's part of my point Jenea-that not all the tribes were abused or 'stolen' from. The Quakers in Penna. paid for much of the land they settled, and/or made treaties. There are also tribes who fought with U.S. cavalry to defeat other tribes, who were their mortal enemies for generations. It isn't as clear cut an issue as some leftist professors make it out to be. Discovery can be made by reading a book, attending a lecture, conversing. Colleges are full of bias as well-contrary to some people's perceptions.
How can a country be stolen, when no one owns it? The 500+ tribes who inhabited N. America had no concept of private property. Some tribes welcomed the settlers, others fought them. You are also arguing about points I never made; i.e., that the country was lost. I said that Columbus discovered America and brought it's reality to the attention of Europe/Spain-not that the continent was created out of whole cloth because he came here. Is this what they teach you in college?
Jenea, there are no reliable statistics as yet on the number of Iraqi civilians killed. They range from 100,000+ to over 1.3 million. NO ONE KNOWS. I also didn't say that war was ALWAYS moral, but that it CAN BE moral.
There was talk of what may lie over the ocean, but until Columbus landed, no tangible proof. European cartographers were interested in mapping the unknown regions of the world, and to them America was a discovery.
