RE: I thought it was meant to be easier for men?!

Lol, what made you think that. Think about it for a second, when is the last time you got hit on by a woman or any man you know for that matter? Women have dozens of guys interested in them every day.

RE: Who are you going to vote for in the local elections May 23rd...

So if you're not willing to choose who you get shafted by don't complain about being shafted?

RE: Who are you going to vote for in the local elections May 23rd...

None of the above. Im not even registered to vote which Im sure will annoy some but I refuse to participate in the sham that is the current political system.

RE: Witch is better Star Wars or Star Trek

I love all Stars equally, Wars, Trek and Gate.

RE: Incentive to Work....

As stated before there are of course people who have no intention of working. Some of whom have indicated if there was a cut off point on the dole they would go and find work. If it were available, which it isnt always. Need proof? How about the 300,000 people who left the country last year to find work. The 14%+ unemployment rate doesnt include these people who have left. Nor the people working part-time and getting half dole. Nor those on FAS or Jobsbridge schemes (emphasis on the scheme. Then there's the new relocation package being offered at the minute find a job in Europe and the governmen will pay for your flights to the interview and then pay you to move there if you get the job. Between that and the FAS jobs notice board sometimes having more jobs abroad than local it's like the government holding up a big neon sign saying "leave while you can. There's nothing here for you". If you really examine the situation you realize it's a lot worse out there than they would have you believe.

It's easy to bash on the unemployed. We generally feel a bit useless anyway and for those in work it probably looks a bit like we're taking food from your mouths but the vast majority of unemployed people would take a suitable job if they could find one. The jobs arent always available, the competition is fierce and if you've changed career it can be a nightmare to be seen to have any value, due to lack of relevant experiences, by employers in other sectors. If you're unemployed and not taking every benefit known to man you are poor. It is a week to week existence and can be incredibly hard to make ends meet let alone work to improve yourself and your situation. Unless you're an idiot why would you choose that.

Now personally I want to work. My sector took a hit in the recession and I've been busy trying to retrain and ultimately open my own business. There's very little help from the Government in this regard, although the 1000 euro per jobseeker training fund is a step in the right direction.
