RE: Are we obliged,to look after, our elderly parents, when incapable looking after themselves??

In my home country, taking care of parents is a legal obligation. However I have never ever seen any case in a court house with a deicision saying that you, child of..., are obliged to take into care and in charge your parent... On the other hand, law fails to oblige parents to take care of their minor children as well.

For me, it's not an obligation, it's something I feel I need to do and I try to do this as best as I can. But my parents have always loved me and supported me and helped me.

I think of a friend of mine, with abusive parents, who kicked her out of their hoouse and beat her even when she was divorced and had a baby of her own. Why should she take care of her parents or be obliged to help her parents ?

I don't think it should be a legal obligation. But I bellieve that if one is raised in a family where family ties matter and where parents love and support children, then when parents are old children wiill also take care of their parents out of love.
