RE: older women younger man

After a certain point in life, age is merely a number. If both people are happy it doesn't matter.

RE: Deadwood??

HBO has proven to be almost as bad as Fox at starting a great show and then killing it! Deadwood is most certainly gone--although HBO claimed that it would make movie or two--so far no movie....and Carnivale was killed after 2 seasons.

Don't forget they also killed Rome after 2 seasons as well.

Pretty sad. Showtime did the same major screw up with Dead Like Me......so far they haven't killed Dexter so maybe there's some hope.

RE: RIP- Heath Ledger

RIP

I'm guessing he'll be remembered more for playing the Joker--I've seen some of the promos and he really seemed to have nailed the part.

RE: How are you?

I'm mostly sardonic, with a dash of cynical and a good dab of ironic.

RE: Why are you single?

I'm single? Dang, that's why I always have to pick up the check.

RE: Did You Know! Facts Thread

Did you know?

That in Time Magazine's list the best 100 novels published since 1923 in the English language is a graphic novel?

Yep,

Alan Moore's Watchmen.

RE: DO PEOPLE GIVE UP TOO EASY ON MARRAIGE THESE DAYS?

In that case perhaps we can spark up the electrodes and Frankenstein the ol' corpse back--shuffling toward the altar altered and haltered to the multimarriage.

grin

RE: Your favorite book?

I'm reading Neal Asher's Gridlinked right now--it's a cross of cyberpunk with space opera and quite brilliant. He's got a real sense of style--reminds me of Neal Stephenson and Wm. Gibson with the word play.

For a dark, gritty read try Jeff Lindsay's Dexter novels.

RE: DO PEOPLE GIVE UP TOO EASY ON MARRAIGE THESE DAYS?

From the percentage of people who divorce it looks like marriage is a dying institution. If it is to survive it needs to be revised (think re-vision: a new vision of what marriage ought to be)....perhaps a polymarriage--multiple spouses rotating on a daily basis for example.

Or, we we don't want to Frankenstein it back into a viable existence, we can watch it linger into death over the next few centuries.

It's hard to forget watching a guy fail a real life IQ test.

A wedding...no kidding. The best man started to light these candles in a circular stand--the idiot started at the bottom left and began lighting the candles from left to right on the BOTTOM first....by the time he got to the top of the circle his jacket was smoking.....

RE: Chase or be Chased?

How chaste this chaser chasing none-chastity. Both are fun but having a lovely beauty chasing is always the flattering.

RE: The Dark Knight

I saw the preview the other day. It looks awesome!

Ledger looks like he will pull off Joker really well.
:)

RE: Your favorite book?

Sigh, there are soooo many really great writers and titles out there and so few are really appreciated. Moore's written some real gems...I think Watchmen and V are my favorites but I've liked most of his other stuff too.

And Ellis is a genius when he writes....Planetary is incredible.

Ennis has a new one out: Boys--hilarious stuff.

:)

RE: Male appreciation thread...

Now, seeing you flex and growl is real appreciation.

And a gift--hands spicey her favorite 'cheese'.

RE: Your favorite book?

Thanks. You've got good taste clearly as I've already read Ennis and Gaiman and some of Morrison too and enjoyed them completely.

Of the newer titles in individual issues I'm reading currently I'm reading Ennis' Boys--dark and satirical.

I love Ellis as well(Transmet and Planetary).

Not getting maced or hit with a tazer is a start....

RE: Your favorite book?

Rereading Alan Moore's Watchmen--good stuff.

:)

RE: God...fact or fiction?

I thought it would help to reshape some of this discussion by going back to the original post and reformulating the inquiry and that the first issue we really need to address is the assumptions behind our interpretations of there being a God or not.

By that I mean we all see the evidence, how we interpret the evidence comes from our assumptions (believes, education, background, etc).

For example, I toss a box of rocks out on the floor. A biologist sees the rocks, exclaims: the fossil record! Ah, evolution. Another biologist see the rocks, utters, 'yes, the fossil record, but note that the fossils aren't gradual;therefore, punctuated equilibrium!' Me, a hillbilly sees the rocks and yells, 'bookends!'

So, the argument for or against the existence of God first starts with looking at the evidence, the universe--and not our individual lives or even at a collection of individual lives, if we are to follow the rules of evidence under scientific inquiry.

And to make this a bit more fun, remember that two of the leading astrophysics thinkers of our age, Einstein and Hawkins both have concluded that a 'God' must exist, while a leading biologist, Dawkins, says 'no way!'....

Hope that helps your debate.

RE: what's the first thing aliens would do if they invaded planet earth what would they really be after?

With our luck they would be the Volgons!

Gotta love the Hitchhike r's Guide.

grin

RE: Heroes! Does anybody else watch it??

Yep, I love Heroes--the second season has been sort of up and down but it's getting better--and even when it's not 'up'...it's better than most of the sitcom or unreality stuff.

And several other shows mentioned on this thread are really good for scifi/fantasy fans: Lost, 4400, Jericho, the new Battlestar Galatica, and Pushing Daisies are all worth giving a shot. Chuck is also a good campy one to watch.

RE: what science fiction film has more chance of becoming reality ?..tell us the storyline !

A lot of the classics Sci Fi are already reality: 1984, Brave New World(soma as prozac,etc)...

Several movies 'borrowed' from Gibson's Neuromancer novel--(and Hollywood is supposed to be trying to make it into a movie). The ideas of human to computer/to AI interface wet(human) ware connecting to hardware...biotech,etc.....

Take a look at 'Strange Days' or Johnny Mnemonic' to see some of his influence(his sprawl novels are the best--neuromancer, mona lisa overdrive, count zero; these and Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash and Diamond Age really have a savagely prophetic vision of our near future....).

For a little more distant future--13th Element.....

or maybe Dune.

I wish someone would try to film some of Jack Vance's novels....I think he may have the best 'future' history out there.

RE: Your favorite book?

Right now I'm reading Neal Asher's Gridlinked--a postmodern cross between cyberpunk, post cyberpunk and space opera. Asher's one of the best things to hit scifi since Gibson and Stephenson.

He's got a mind blowing time travel story, Cowl. Hard reading but brilliant.

In Science, A Brief History of Time.

In poetry, the Collected works of Yeats

In drama, Shakespeare
