RE: Anyone wanting to know what living in Alaska is really like ; not what the reality tv shows portray

Hi Mountain Man -

I was going to quote your first comment about "the old saying" but decided to wait until I read your thread through to the last post.

As for the old saying - I have never heard that before but I'll certainly remember it :)

As for Alaska and all the TV shows currently showing here on National Geographic, some are interesting to follow but it has to be said ones like the Kilcher family does make one think at times as how life can be as they portray it.

Basically, you have clarified quite a few things about "what they do" and it's good that, let's say "suspicions" are laid to rest as far as they go.

We also see the one about "Lakeside Rebels" but to be honest, that show - in my humble opinion - is well and truly over dramatised.

Take Stefen in a recent show, the showed used almost 10 minutes having him talk about the rough weather (3 times!), because his oversized baseball cap blew off.

No offence intended towards Stefan by the way! ;)

I'd rather watch paint dry.

I used to like watching the Brown Family, but that got to be "finger down your throat" kind of thing, but somethings are still okay with that show in small bites. (Is a wolf howl in order here?) It's good to see that they teddybear do love their bears.

As for me, I prefer the Port Protection series as there are a few people there who tell things as they are, (and if not, they are convincing).

Anyway Mountain Man - thanks for a good thread and I hope it grows. I'll bookmark it and drop in from time to time.

Keep it up!
