Once in a while some folks from Ft Drum would come up across to Kingston and party some...good people. Most of 'em were youngsters under 21. Personally, I don't think it's right to have the drinking age apply to military personnel. If you can carry a weapon in combat or serve your country in uniform in WHATEVER capacity, that should give the right.
Crap...I thought this was a thread about the Chief of Defense Staff. I think I'll stick around HERE for a little longer, but I'll keep it in mind for later on...
OK...I've been checking out some of the MARVELOUS threads we have on the go. *sigh*...I wondered if it was a full moomn...or close to it??? No...not even close. I think at this point, I'm just gonna log off the site and have a few pints. Maybe watch television. More chance of that being productive. I'm hearing some music playing in the background on here tonight...Monty Python...I'm A Lumberjack and I'm OK. Time to go...or stay and drink a LOT of beer. Since I don't want to do that, bonsoir a tous.
I'm Canadian to start with and in the military as well...we don't get laid off so I don't know what to tell you. Sorry to hear that there's so much economic fall-out though. It sucks big-time.
Not only an "enabler". Another term for it is "co-dependency". You can try as much as you want to help, but as stated earlier so eloquently, "NOBODY can fix an alkie but God and the alkie themselves." It's not "abandoning" someone to make yourself scarce if they refuse to get help. Sometimes, that's all you CAN do and the best thing TO do.
That, and cleaning them and the house up after they barf on themselves and various and sundry parts of the residence. THAT smell hangs around, too. EWWwwwwwwww.
Addiction isn't logical or intelligent. Stupid though it might be, it could still happen. I do agree however, if they fought it successfully once, they can do it again...if they want to.
I've "met" some very nice people on here so far. It's unfortunate that the world is in such a mess that we can't trust each other the way we used to be able to.
I can say that without cynicism because of where I'm originally from. We're known for being really laid-back and friendly and although arseholes happen everywhere, you're much less likely to encounter them there. There are even still places there where people don't lock their doors...no need to.
The scammers and such on this site are the price we pay for it being a free site. Personally, I find them a minor annoyance at most. Block and delete works quite well...
Overall, I would say that I really do like this site and although anything can be improved, it's not bad as is.
I'm visiting my son this weekend. Dunno if that counts as being alone or not but at least I'm spending time with family. It WOULD be nice, however, to be spending ROMANTIC time with someone...ah well...maybe next year.
RE: Drinking Age
The crew I hung with always made folks from the Drum feel welcome.Indeed, there WAS much fun had.
