The 1946 partition of what was British Palestine mandate territories into a Jewish and an Arabic State was a step in the right direction. After subsequent aggressive wars by the Arabs, Israel eventually conquered all 'Palestine'. Sort of spoil of war.
However, being the dominant State in question and in the region, Israel should now show more goodwill, and stop colonising the 'occupied' lands. That is not their land. Here is where my sympathies for the Jewish question starts to wane.
Why is it that the west has to take self-blame on everything? Sandhurst train command military men as far as I know, and not politicians specialising in dictatorship.
There is nothing wrong with immigration, as long as it is kept within sane proportions.
However, things will turn bad when it runs out of hand in numbers. It is as EU Commission President Barot said when in Greece "Illegal immigration is threatening the stability and democracy in Greece". Massive immigration can destabilise countries, and it is no light thing.
Small countries like Malta and Cyprus come to this reality sooner than larger countries.
Whether it still does is subject to opinion. Today almost all countries in the world are independent and sovereign, and hence anything done is by the blessing of their government.
Europe cannot be blamed eternally for their problems. It is becoming a very convenient excuse. For example, why is it that they still are having large families when they know that they cannot sustain them? Why is it that after every election (where they are held) they seem to tore each other out?
They throw away their passports, or enter Malta without documents. A country or State, does not accept anyone back without passports. Moreso, they lie about their identity to our authorities, to lengthen their stay here, claiming all to be coming from Somalia, when it is not the case.
For real Somalis, their country is without a government and does not issue passports.
And then, when or if they decide to tell the truth, it takes a long time for their authorities to issue passports. Like for eg. sudan, congo, ghana.
So far, we have no similar agreements like the Italian one with Libya. The Italians manage to send them back all there, as from where they departed.
Malta's illegal immigration problem (and a large problem it is), stems mostly from Eastern African countries. These countries are never in peace or order. (somalia, eritrea, ethiopia, sudan) Must tell something about their attitude.
They land here either by accident or because they are in distress. But stuck with them we are, cause no one wants them in the continent.
They also seems to import their domestic problems with them. This situation cannot continue.
No still, you cannot go to an EU country and have nowhere to stay, or pretend social services from that country, or social housing for that matter. At least that is how it is around here.
Our demographic makeup is no different than other southern euro-mediterrenean countries, (Italy, Spain) much larger and less dense, but which are still finding it hard to cope with this influx.
