Nothing I like better than a good debate, Blippidy ... not possible on a public forum .... don't agree that they have to integrate but they must abide by the laws of the country in which they now reside .. and if their children are being abused, then that must be dealt with ..
Jeez, D .. you should get that cough seen to??? Or at least get someone to rub goose fat into yer chest??? Come to think of it .. have some in the fridge for the roasties ... could you wait for a while? Could be the party piece of KK??? Who needs ice???
this is worst type of thread ... hasn't been one like it for a while ..... very surpised by certain posts, not at all by others, reality is that Romanian and Bulgarian nationals do not qualify for financial or social assistance, nor can they work in this country without a work permit. The work permit requirement is removed after 12 months continuous employment .. problem is that they can come to Ireland but then are excluded and left to their own devices. Every culture has different norms and accepted traditions. Why should we expect them to integrate into our culture .... did we, when we went abroad, to the UK, to America, to Australia??? I don't agree with certain of the activities in which they get involved but the reality is that these are actually criminal and should be dealt with as such???
The Roma people migrated from north-west India to Persia between 224 and 642 CE. By the 14th and 15th centuries, some had migrated to western Europe. Some came to North America in the 19th and early 20th centuries. There are about 12 million Roma in the world. It is impossible to estimate the total population with accuracy since many governments do not record Roma in their census figures. Also, many Roma conceal their ethnic origin out of fear of discrimination.
They are very heavily persecuted, particularly in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. According to Amnesty International, of the ten million Roma living in Europe, almost 80% live in European Union states. "The Roma population is the poorest and one of the fastest growing in the region, living predominantly on the margins of society. Roma are one of the largest ethnic minority groups in Europe
