Yes. The Knights loaned great amounts of money to France and others but they were a poor order. When they left on their quest to the Holy land they were financed. Soon after they came back they became the financiers. Unless Herods temple had a huge gold mine underneath and they were able to secret tons of gold all the way back to Europe, then the only thing they could have brought back was knowledge. But what knowledge could possibly be worth such vast sums of money?
