I’m the kind of person who usually keeps to himself, outside of my small circle of close friends. It’s not that I don’t like people. Quite the contrary. I’m simply a quiet, analytical person. Once I become familiar with someone, I open up.
Except for a short period a few years ago, I had been an insurance broker (employee benefits, health insurance, retirement plans) for the past 18 years. That career, while moderately profitable, was honestly downright miserable. Since 2004, I’ve spent progressively more time in the historic preservation field, the subject of my education and something for which I have a tremendous passion. Upon returning from an archaeology field school in Maryland in the summer of 2012, I acquired a house built circa 1740 (Woodleys Manor) in northeastern North Carolina. With several long-term projects in the mix, including my own, and greater responsibility, I decided to leave my previous line of work (although I maintain my licenses) and focus on preservation full-time. No more offices, never the same setting day in and day out, and plenty of quiet time scouting timber in the woods or perusing 200-year-old documents in the archives ... Best. Decision. Ever.
Aside from work, I enjoy the outdoors (camping, fishing, hiking), attending concerts (I can find something to like in nearly all genres), movies, growing things (no, nothing illegal), cooking (I’ve been told I’m decent), spontaneous (or nearly-so) road trips, spending time with friends, volunteering for various causes (I'll be spending two weeks in El Salvador building houses in August), and reading. When it comes to movies and television, I won’t lie – I’m a nerd (Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Marvel, Star Trek, Big Bang Theory ...). Although I’ll go to a bar or club on occasion - a very rare occasion anymore - I’m not really into the bar/party scene. To some, that may sound boring, but there are so many other things to do, places to go, things to see!

Let me be forthright about my intentions. I’m at the point where I’d like to meet someone who is interested in pursuing what could become a long-term, monogamous relationship.
