The Chantel McGregor Band perform Sloe Gin at The New Barrack Tavern Sheffield 16th.October 2009

An up and coming trio, The Chantel McGregor Band, have steadily built up an appreciative following in the North of England over the last few years. Now that Chantel has finished her studies at Leeds College Of Music – with flying colours, just take a look at the biog. on her website! - The band is venturing further afield and hopefully there’ll be a CD available soon. A total natural on the guitar, a really fluid player, she makes playing look effortless.
The group perform an excellent broad repertoire of numbers by Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Fleetwood Mac, Robin Trower, Bonnie Raitt, Joe Satriani, Jethro Tull, Blind Faith, Richie Kotzen etc. and especially Joe Bonamassa who she’s jammed with onstage, plus her own compositions.

This clip is the first thing I’ve ever filmed on a recently acquired first digital camera! This was my second visit to see the group at this very cosy venue in Sheffield-imagine them performing in your living room and you’re just about there- and as I was only about 6 foot from the stage it was difficult keeping both head and guitar in frame.
This number is Sloe Gin, written by Bob Ezrin and Michael Kamen as performed by Joe Bonamassa. Chantel seems to play numbers differently each performance –improvising- if you look among the dozens of superb clips on You Tube there’s a good one of this at The Leeds Irish Club which makes a nice comparison.

...so many bright and talented young things out there, you need only look away for a short while and miss the next "big thing"...this girl has the ability and a raft of good influences...certainly worth keeping an eye on...
im wondering if this is an old song...Bob Ezrin must be getting on now, i remember his time working with Alice Cooper back in the 70s...(ah, fond memorieslaugh )...

Thank Lard,
Yes you’re correct it is an old song…originally appearing on Tim Curry’s 1978 debut album.
I think Chantel’s definitely going places!
