The majority of people seem to like ’Layla’ by Derek and The Dominos. Most people probably know Derek was Eric Clapton, but how many are aware that Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers Band made a considerable contribution, playing slide guitar on this hit recording?.... The group name is the influence for Derek Trucks’ christian name, Butch Trucks, long-time drummer with The Allman Brothers Band, is Derek’s Uncle.

There’s one word for this performance…. AWESOME !

At this age, I was taking guitar lessons after school, I’m still trying to learn and do think there’s a gradual improvement but I know I’ll never be able to play like this…. few people will.

Eric might have been Derek but I think Derek is now The Man.

For those of you who don't want to check this out on YouTube, I'd better add this is a 13year old Derek opening for The Allman Brothers Band on July 4th.1993 at Walnut Creek Amphitheatre,Raleigh,North Carolina.

...bloody marvelous!...first i heard of DT he was working with Government Mule...i really had no idea of his ability untill seeing this clip...
couldn't help seeing this and thinking of the Ralph Macchio / Sonny Terry / Steve Vai film "crossroads"...as you probbibly know, Ry Cooder did the RM guitar parts in the now legendary "face off" between good and evil, you have to wonder if they might have put the film off a couple of years and cut out the "middle men"...
ah well, just a thaught....

It’s just amazing… pure talent and an incredible feel for the instrument. At the beginning of the year I was unaware of Derek Trucks, again he’s come to light from the ’Crossroad Festival’ DVD…. I have known about his wife Susan Tedeschi a lot longer…she always got good reviews in Mojo magazine. I think they make a lovely couple and work so well on stage together:
