Tangible Dreams

Tangible Dreams
By JJ Johnson

If I dream deeply enough
Will you rise with me in the morning?
Will you kiss the sunrise onto my eyes
To make you more tangible than an apparition?
Be more to me than a midnight visitor
So real in my arms when my eyes are shut to reality
I swear, I swear, I swear you were there
I could feel you, your warmth was there for a moment
I felt your lips on my cheek, your breath on my face
It was there, I swear, do you hear me, I swear
I could smell you like blueberry hotcakes
With your sweet honey butter filling the air
Until you were washed away by the salt in my tears
Can I please dream you into existence?
Would that be alright with you?
To conjure you into my flesh and blood world
From the sparks crackling within my mind?
Why should someone so sweet and pure
Live only in my imagination?
Why do you torture my waking thoughts
With vagaries of fading memories
That cling just long enough that I can't forget you
Yet not long enough to remember how you felt
Why can't you stay just a little longer?
To hear the sound of your voice promising your heart
As the echo of a word that I swear I heard
I sear, I swear, I swear I heard
It sounded like the sound my heart cries to you
Next time you come to ley in my arms
Say the word as you arrive so I can caress it's sound
And say it back as a song I want to compose for you
To write you a poem and recite my soul on your delicate skin
Please let me at least pretend for just a little while
Let me hear your promise, let me hear, let me hear
