What do you say .. . How do you reach out???

I don't think there is anything worse than a parent having to bid farewell to a child. What does one say? How do you reach out? What can one possibly do to console?

My friend has faced a trauma recently when her daughter contracted a virus. It attacked her nervous system, casusing first a lameness in her legs, which spread and within two weeks resulted in total paralysis. Doctors held no hope for repairing any damaged caused, but continued to try to stop the spread of the virus.

To no avail.

At the tender age of 26, her young life came to an end.crying

I am going to see my friend today, and I have no idea how to convey what I am feeling.
I have lost many family members and close friends, and it is always a challenge to find the right words. But today it just seems soo much worse.

The Ant and the Contact Lens

This is an amazing, amusing yet inspiring story and is especially for my friends here who are currently in need of that inspiration and reassurance.

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens 'Great',she thought. 'Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry.'
She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there.

She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse 'The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.'

She thought, 'Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me.'

Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted 'Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?'

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!

The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, 'Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You.'

I think it would do all of us some good to say, 'God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if you want me to carry it, I will.'

I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

There are a number of messages which I got from this story,I hope you find one which helps you.bouquet heart beating

Cynicism

Life experiences sometimes takes its toll on us in some strange ways.

One of these is CYNICISM.

It becomes the wall to hide behind and the shield to banish and at times it becomes the razor sharp, double edged sword which we use to cut our adversaries down to size.

We issue cynical remarks about just about anything and everything, sometimes lashing out at the innocents who pass our paths.

We use it disguised as a rather warped sense of humour, sometimes at the expense of others.

We even use it to camouflage our emotions, to avoid being hurt.

wowfrustrated

The question I have to ask is . .

How effective has our Cynicism been . . .
How well has it in effect served us?
How has it contributed to the improvement of our lives?dunno wine heart1 bouquet

Blessings we often take for granted

This has been one of those busy weekends for me.
My youngest celebrated her crown-birthday balloons(that is when your age coincides with the date of your birth) and 2 days later my mother celebrated her 70th cake.
Both these birthdays are acknowledged by my family as being important party. Normally we would have had a joined celebration, but this time round, both of them were specially treated to their own prolonged celebrations.
My youngest started her celebrations with an early pick-up at school and was given the opportunity to select her own gift gift , after which she was treated to a decadent desert at a five star hotel. The next day she had a few friends over to an afternoon of fun and excitementpopcorn shimmy.

My mother was treated to a brunch prepared by my kids, and served in style wine Spent the early afternoon on a shopping spree and the evening was treated to a dinner with her family (as she requested) bartender dance happy birthday danceline

I don't know how much time I still have left with her and my dad, but one thing I do know is that any time we have left is precious.

I look around and virtually on a daily basis we hear of children dying (just last night a bus accident resulted in 6 children between the ages of 1 and 7 yrs losing their lives sad flower )

If we are blessed to have the privilege of still having our parents, perhaps we should show our appreciation and our gratitude for that more frequently.
If we are blessed to have our children close to us, perhaps we should show our love and unconditional acceptance of who they are as individuals.

Today, give your mom/dad/ your son/daughter a hug and remind them of what they mean to you. Or better still, remind yourself of what they mean to you.

Worth the pain and suffering

Wednesday last week . .. spent the morning shopping with my Mom, it was good, we don't often get the opportunity to spend time alone together.
I took her for a light brunch, by which time I was starting to feel a bit "off key" shortly after the meal, my phone rings , and its my daughter, asking if I'd like to go to a show.
Before she could give any details . . . I responded "YES". . . any opportunity to get out at night is ALWAYS welcome.

By 5pm, (time to pick up the tickets)I knew I was in serious trouble. I was already burning with fever, every bone in my body was aching and my head was a pounding mess.
Who cares . . . I was going OUT . . . in an ADULT world . . .
Arrived at the show venue, turns out I had under-estimated my fever, because I was freezing my behind off . . .
Who cares . . . I was OUT . . . in an ADULT world . . .
I had an hour wait for the tickets, but . . .
Who cares . . . I was OUT . . . in an ADULT world . . .

The show started, and suddenly the fever in my body was replaced by the fever in my blood . . .
The pain pounding in my heart was taken over by the music pounding through my soul.
The pain sweeping through my body was superseded by the rhythm sweeping through the souls of my feet.

The artist was the embodiment of a true stage persona . . . she exuded class, charisma, elegance . . . all of which was embellished by her beauty and her talent. Fresh from her world tour, she spun her magic for Cape Town.
