Dictator Parent

I was on the interview schedule one day in a big company and met the Human Recources Department staff. She told me that she impressed with my Curriculum vitae and would like to have more conversation with me outside from the work matter. So I spent some times to talk with her after my interview.

The HRD staff, called her Adrian, about 20 years old girl. Adrian is a young fresh graduate student from one of the reputable university in Indonesia and now just joint with the company where I had the interview for about one month. She told me that some big Companies have rejected her as an employee due to she is wearing Muslim Hijab. I noticed that she tried to tell me something but not really opened to me.

After a while, our conversation become more opened and she told me openly that actually she is proud of me when she read my CV since we are in the same mind set, want to pursue for more higher education.

Adrian told me that for her age, some of her same-ages friends do not have the same mind set to want to developing their education and her friends even told her that no need to persue too high education since they are girls. When she met me Adrian thinks different way that nothing wrong with herself and her willing related to education.

Adrian also honestly and openly told me that she used to be a very shy girl in the University due to there is problem in her family. She is the only child in the family and her mom seems like very dictator to her, blame her for many things, never proud or satisfied with what Adrian reach, and set so many high standars for her. She became very closed and shy. Everything was changed when she began to joint the University organization and become more confidence with her ownself. She told me that she now has moved out from her house and want to be more independent and far away from her dictator mom. She feels more happier after that.

I myself have met one of dictator boss. Really not a pleasant feeling and definately she pushed my confidence to the lower level. At that time I can do nothing since she was my boss and she paid my salary.

During working with her, I feel no chance to speak up my voice. She likes to ask me to do this and that and I just feel like a personnel assistant than an employee (Your remember "The Devil wears Prada?").

While working with the Company, actually I have much ideas and spirit to do my job very well and to develop some system in the company but I always stuck in the process that I has to follow what the boss wished. There was no clear communication between us. I always have to ask her to decided something. If I proposed the idea which I thought better, she didn't want to say anything. If I did my idea, she felt not happy. The conclusion is I have to always listened to her and do what she said. In the end of the mixed feeling, I decided to step away from her and look for another job. Later I found out that her kids at home are also always listen to what she said due to she will feel not happy and mad at them (sometimes yelling like a boss) to them and the poor kids are afraid that their mom will not love them anymore and seems that can't make any decision for something when their mom is around. They have to wait for her mom's decision, (even for only order a pan of pizza and they afraidher momwill disagree and mad), and they did anything to make her happy. (The older kids are now 35 years old and the second kid was 30 years old).

Dictator person especially a parent is never a good thing. Parents sure know the best but parents not supposed to push their willing to children. We as parents need to know that time and era has changed and people are grown up already. Thanks to the nutrition of the children' meals now, the children now have reason and we can listen to what their idea and creativity are. Like one time a teacher asked a child "can you tell me why the clouds in your drawing are gray insted of white?" not "The cloud must be white, not gray".

Will It Happened One Day?

i was on the bus and on the traffic jam. It still needs about 1 more hour to reach the place. It was 2pm and weather was hot. I was sweat and the car just didn't move even a bit.

Traffic jam in Jakarta was one of the common thing happened here. There are some sectors here that must be put in priority by Government.

It has been one month I was in Jakarta and I noticed it is the drainage that clog is the main problem. I have shared opinion to my cousin who originally born and raised in Jakarta, but according to him, it's just impossible to handle the stuck drainage.

The drainages are, if I can make a simple imagination to you, they are with black water, many floating garbages on the water, have unpleasant smell, and the water is still there and only will go to somewhere when Jakarta is flooding. You got what I mean.

On the bus, I notice people bought clean water in the gallon from a station. It means that the people should spend more money to get the clean water. Some people in Jakarta use the ground water but it's still not as good quality as what you have in your place.

The ground water here is not as fresh as the water in my hometown. The soap just doesn't make much foam as much as it should be. Plus weather is hot then you feel not yet shower after you open the bathroom door and step out.

Something that makes me keep thinking, will we have to also buy fresh air one day later? I notice that in one department store, there is can fresh air available for sale. Notice that people in Jakarta begin to wear mask outside.

:)

I have a very busy days these days and these months. There are some good news and some challenging at once in my life lately.

One of the good news is I'm staying in Jakarta now. I met so many type of people from around the world here {wink}

Today the after office hour in the busway shelter, I noticed a foreign man was holding his handphone and asking someone to help him to do some translation. He said he was lost. I saw no one stop to help him. I didn't think twice then I picked the phone from him and talked to a woman who talked over there. She talked in Indonesia language and asked my position. We were talking and I got clue where I have to send this man. I proud that my English is actually good! haha

I like this city but I also miss Medan :'(

Do We Care?

Reading the online news.

Got info that student in Japan was suicide due to being pressure by the school trainer.

The news also informed that many case of suicide was due to the unemployee, family problem or being bully by people surround them.

Suicide case is not the first time. It happened often especially in Japan. I guess we have to more care and concern with people around us.

Sometimes people give us signal that they are having problem and stress but often we ignore the signal.

Remember the case of suicide when the person posting a note in twitter before she did the suicide but no one care about that. That's sad.

Job

I'm learning about importing procedures related to my job now. Still have many things need to understand until one day I saw this in National Geographic series. I'm glad there are many valuable TV channel like National Geographic.

Saw this video, I can understand more about shipping and importing. It's very helpful for me. I think this might helpful for you as well, in case you haven't watched this series.

Live is full of learning experience. The more we learn, the more we are easy to forget things. But that is how we try to keep learning. Practice will makes perfect. Learning more will makes us understand more.

Have a nice weekend all!

A big pickle jar

An inspiring story..Please spend your time to read. It's really worth.. hope to accompany your day.

As I know, a big pickle jar is always there on the floor beside the cupboard in parents' room. Before go to bed, my father always empty his pants pockets and then put all the coins into the bottle. As a child, I was glad to hear the jingle of coins dropped into the bottle. The sound of dropped coins become louder if the bottle just have a little coins inside. The coins sound is low when the bottle is f ull. I like to squat on the floor in front of the bottle, admiring the pieces of silver and copper shimmered like pirate's treasure when the sun through the bedroom window.

If it is full, he poured the coins into the kitchen table, counting them before took him to the bank. Bring the chips in the bank is always a big event. The coins were arranged neatly in a cardboard box and placed in between me and my father in his old truck. Every time we go to the bank, Dad looked at me expectantly. "Because these coins you do not need to work in textile factories. Your fate will be better than mine. The old town and the mill can not keep you here. " Everytime pushing boxes of coins to the bank teller, Dad always smiling proudly. "This is my son's tuition. He would not work in a textile factory along his life like me."

Returned from the bank, we always celebrate it by buying ice cream. I always choose chocolate ice cream. Dad always choose the vanilla. After receiving the change from an ice cream, Dad always shows some coins that change me. "When we arrive home, we fill the bottle again. "

Dad always told me to put the first coins into the jar whi ch is still empty. As the coins dropped jingling loud, We looked at each other with a smile. "You'll be able to lecture because of this one penny, nickle, dime, and quarter, "he said." You must can study in college. I swear to you. "

Year after year passed. I finally did succeed in college and I graduated from college and got a job in another city. Ever, when I visit my parents, I'm calling from the phone in their bedroom. I noticed that the jar no more. That pickle jar had completed his task and was moved somewhere. My throat felt tight when my eyes looked at the floor beside the cupboard where the jar was used in place.

My father did not talk a lot, he never lectured me about the importance of determination, perseverance, and confidence. For me, that pickle jar had taught the values that more real than beautiful words.

After getting married, I told Susan, my wife, how important role of the jar that seems trivial in my life. For me, pickle jar that sy mbolizes how much my father’s love for me. No matter how deep the difficult financial circumstances is, every night my father was always filled pickle jar with coins. Even in the summer when the father discharged from textile factories and the mother had only presents canned beans for weeks, even one piece was never been taken from the pickle jar. Conversely, looking at me from across the table and poured the beans with a little sauce for having a little bit tasty, Dad more confirms his determination to find a way out for me. "When you've finished college," he said with his eyes flashing, "you do not have to eat beans unless you want to."

I just back

I just went back from Jakarta last week. It's amazed that Jakarta now develop very much than the last time I visited.

My General Manager has informed me that I'm going to move to Jakarta office in the early of December 2012. I will be there two weeks for every month and then two weeks in Medan.

It might be a little bit scare go back and forth by plane especially evening plane. I never like evening plane and wonder how the age added and we become more scare for many things. LOL.

It's amazed when I was child, each time I heard the plane sounds and I will run out the home and waved to the plane on the sky. Hoping that one day later I will have a chance to go by airplane and go abroad. It was really expensive for the ticket at that time.

I have to thanks God for all of the blessing. I proud on myself that I get this all from my hard work. One thing always in my note that when we work hard, all the result, even though not always 100% the same as what we hope, it's always have double satisfaction for us {smile}
