X-Factor and Me...

"Art for art sake, money for god sake"

Truthfully, i wouldnt watch a season of x factor for a fortune in gold, and im not shitting you...
but *talent* shows (citation needed) have been around for donkeys years, 'opportunity knocks' with hughie green (dana anyone), or 'your a star' with micky most on the panel... cowell / walsh et-al are just a 21 centuary rehash of a horey old entertainment chestnut...
What is insidious is the culture of celebrity that has become so pervasive in society and particularly entertainment, evidenced by the triumph of fashion and public image over artistic credibility...
Now there are plenty of examples of talent, but all to often they are eclipsed by the bigger buck at the cowell / walsh box office...
I loved the purity of susan boyles voice, the dancing talent of that young lad who did the gene kelly dance cover...sadly, the proliferation of x factor jibber jabba is down to the public appetite for candyfloss entertainment with a serving of christains and lions on the side...
Once upon a time, lads would pile in the back of a transit van, travel the lengh and bredth of a country, and if they worked their arses off and slowly built up a following while plying their craft, they would 'make a career' in entertainment, now tv and telephones have replaced blood sweat and tears as the entertainers apprentiship, and the great unwashed become judges and jurours...
Welcome the new era....you can now be famous just for being famous...
Am i bitter...nah, but i shed a silent tear for those who should have made it but never did, and now, probably never will...

about live music.....

it can be hard work coming up with ideas to please an audience, 'electric and electro-coustic' music is not a big bucks and glory game, and for the hours spent in the learning and creative process there can sometimes be little more than the personal satisfaction of 'getting it nailed' musically speaking...
the 'process' is made easier when we are fortunate enough to have dedicated people to work with, when a single goal is being worked towards, and when the point of focus is 'good enough' always trumps 'near enough'...
when you go down to the pub next and live music is being played, stop, listen and think for one moment about the hours spent by musicians, their freely given rehersal time, fuel expenses, wear and tear on gear and transport and general outlay, nearly all of which is 'on-going', and that as part of a quartet, they may only be taking home 50 quid a skull for an evening that includes travel, setting up, playing, breaking down and late nights home...
its not all 'guns n roses', and we do it for the love of the game more than the money most of the time, so, the least the audience can do is show some appreciation for musicians by acknowledgement and compliance...please let us do our jobs unhindered by equipment tampering, damage and sometimes even theft, give us space to set up and break down, and please please please dont 'help' us with extra percussion instruments you might have brought along...
music, its there for everyone to enjoy, and participation is appreciated, but you wouldn't get behind the butchers counter and help him make your sausages, so, let us entertain you, and you in turn can support musicians, live music venues, pubs and clubs and help keep the universal art-form alive for everyone to enjoy, now and for years to come....

So What?....

Kinda tough to know what to put in these things that doesnt make the writer come across as a self absorbed pompous arse....
So ill just random out, a bit of something anything ya could say...

This is nothing new, been here, done that and like so many before me, still looking for that elusive right person...
With all the 'very nearly's' and 'what ifs', and about two and a half years of CS heritige, im still lingering in the 'lost and found' section of human relationships, Not bad mind, since I have some absolutly wonderfull female friends as a result of 'online dating', but finding the definative article, (as my now profile lists) is like expecting Jesus to come out from behind the sofa and hand me next weeks winning lotto ticket!....But hey, I can wish cant I....

So, as a mention to all of you out there who read this, If your a musician who lived through and loved the 70s and its wild diversity, make a comment, drop a line or even just consider your reasons for being here, and whether they are being met...

Everyone has something to say about something, as for me and blogging, well, I guess time will tell if i have anything worth telling...Lifes not without its suprises is it?....

Branden...cheers ....

And finally, a bit of music to go!...(Bass player John Entwistle was my inspiration to take up music)....

Great Clip........
