Excitement fills the air

and it is very difficult to stay in the moment as my thoughts and imaginings have already flown from here to NYC and back! I need to focus qa little and do the next right things: organize the apartment; lay down a couple of voice tracks for the promos to run this week; decide on what to pack; pre-cook a week's worth of meals for my mother (she lives downstairs and hates to cook);but oh I'm going to NY! There are bookstores full of books that are current, shoe stores with variety and more than two cinemas (which both show the same films at the same time).

Barbados is a paradise in its way, it was a great place to grow up and go to school, but once you are grown there are - as with everywhere - disadvantages. I don't particularly like going to the beach, there's all this sand there; I am no longer an aquatic mammal (if ever I was) and am not that fond of swimming, neither do I want to watch polo on a Sunday. I like to be able to walk for miles without jumping into ditches to avoid the traffic (no pavements or sidewalks) I like to sit and have a cup of coffee that doesn't cost the equivalent of a four course meal(that is an exaggeration, but you know what I mean) and I like to be able to shop late and shop on any day of the week.

Here everybody knows where you have been because they recognize your car number after a couple of weeks. Yes really!

And I miss the bookstores and 100% cotton T shirts that don't have Barbados written all over them. I know where I live and I prefer not to dress like a tourist! So while I love Barbados, I do see the advantages of being able to leave occasionally.

Home again home again

6:20 a.m. in Barbados and the show went really well tonight. The servers didn't go down, I'm getting used to the computer and getting it to work well with the decks etc. and I am starting to get a feel for the time slot and howw to slant the music and features so it is an overnight show, not just a show done from midnight until morning. All very cool stuff and I am wiped out and hungry so first feed the beast then dreamland for a couple of hours I hope.

Unformatted floppies

Now explain to me HOW when I formatted the disks in the drive attached to the computer I later tried to access the data from it can blandly tell me the disk is incorrectly formatted? There are days when I would like to smack my computer silly if it wasn't just a dumb animal! I've captured brighter fireflies!

The tedium of transferring files from an older system to a new one is never ending, either one (the old one) cannot recognize the file transfer system, the bridge cable only works in one direction , no drivers for the USB flash drive and just when I thought I had come up with a truly KISS solution use an external floppy drive on the new system and dump the files onto floppy from the old...aaargh!

Okay, I feel better now. Time for breakfast then I'll re-format the suckers and try again. If you 'listened' thank you.

Friday or Firday depending on the caffeine levels

The original plan was to stay up over night last night and sleep through the first part of the day so working the show from midnight till dawn tonight I would be less sleep deprived. The last two weeks I basically pulled 26 hours between sleep periods and it takes its toll. 'Course that did not happen and my new addiction (blogging - the globally public diary, not to mention reading through the threads) called to me so I didn't turn over and bury my head under the pillow.

A personal sacrifice I am willing to make or I wouldn't be doing it! Feeling a little dislocated actually - travelling on Monday so my mind is already wandering, making and discarding plans instead of staying in the now where it belongs. Well, some plans are necessary - Take a taxi or long term parking? Get currency. Will I shop a lot or do I actually need to pack some clothes? Carry on or checked bag? Little monkey mind fidgeting all over the place. Breathe in...breathe out...all that matters now is I am casting my thoughts into the ether and I want another cup of tea. Breakfast too. Bacon, tomato, I'm out of eggs, perhaps shredded wheat. The day has started.

Thoughts for a wednesday morning

Just fed two of the five feral cats that are trying to convince me that they belong to me, made cheese toast and tea for breakfast and discovered that letting windows install updates has really messed up some things on my PC. Don't know what happened I pretty much NEVER install any of those updates they bombard me with but there was this one security patch being recommended... @#&*%^$@####! I'll have to see if reverting to a restore point will help (note to impulsive side: dump all the NEW stuff onto a zip BEFORE you restore, just in case). Oh well, I live and breathe and have my being so it's just some salvage work. And it is Wednesday so that means the glazed pots come out of the kiln so I'll get to see how the colours came out. Yay!

Tuesday's Dead

Well, Jerry Falwell is one of the day's dead and that should be one heck of a funeral. Wonder if there is a special afterlife for evangelists...

Have been checking out the threads next door in the forums, posting to a couple that tickled my fancy, nice way to wind down. Tuesday was an interesting day this week last minute sick call by the drive time dj so filled in and managed to miss the darned pips on the BBC news, then calling the Met office for the weather report! What an intense experience - phrases like one eighth low, two eighths high coming at you out of any recognizable context with the rapidity of machine gun fire...definitely had a couple of "Duh?" moments.

Came up with some catchy ads to attract new voices - probably start auditions once I get back from NY. Oh joy! New York and bookstores and beef that has never been frozen and miles and miles of sidewalks to walk along! And tango in the Chelsea Market, milongas everywhere!Art supplies oh NY I have missed you so! Not enough to move back permanently again though...I don't think so anyway. especially as I can probably visit twice a year with the job I have now so I won't have to go into total withdrawal. Okay, enough, tired, hungry and still need to do a couple of things before burying the day.

Morning thoughts will dawn.

The end of Monday

Too much soy sauce in the stir fry but dinner was good and now I can put the day outside me and get it into perspective. Got the promos finished, the print ad is approved and set to go and I pulled together half of the music for the next show. Looking over my morning thoughts I suddenly understand why I am making the effort to join an on line community, I've been getting way too narrow band, focusing only on the new show and what needs to be done. life has got to be a bigger picture or I'll go crazier than I usually am! Got two movie reviews to write and the sales department is going to try to sell the feature-sponsorship would be a good thing. Any how, time to catch up with the on line world and go play on the word association thread. Today was a good day.
