What Saint Paul said in (1 Timothy 6:7-10) ?

Hi everyone! wave

In his letter to the disciple Timothy, Paul wrote:'7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.'

And Saint Paul concludes: '10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.' (1 Timothy 6:7-10)

The "defects" of Jesus (Part 7)

(7) Jesus did not keep Jewish law
Jesus not only communicate with friends, with sinners, but often he attended parties with them. Jesus did not keep the laws of the Jewish community at the time, He defied the law is to wash your hands before meals, but went straight to the table: When the Pharisee saw it, he was surprised that He had not first ceremonially washed before the meal. (Lk. 11, 38)

Especially in the sabbath day, Jesus often cure the disease to people, that for the Jews at that time was against the law. In the Gospels have recorded many such events, such as healing the sick edema:

Healed the sick edema:
Jesus at a Pharisee’s House
1 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, He was being carefully watched. 2 There in front of Him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. 3 Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?” 4 But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, He healed him and sent him on his way.
5 Then He asked them, “If one of you has a child or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?” 6 And they had nothing to say. (Lk 14,1-6)

Healed a woman bent:
Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.” (Lk 13,14)

Jesus Heals a Crippled Woman on the Sabbath
10 On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, 11 and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, He called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” 13 Then He put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

14 Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”

15 The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? 16 Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”

17 When He said this, all His opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing. (Luke 13,10-17)

John 20:1-9
The Empty Tomb
20 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2 Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.”

3 Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple, and were going to the tomb. 4 So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first. 5 And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed. 9 For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead.

Luke 24:13-35

The Walk to Emmaus
13 Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, 14 and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, 16 but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 And he said to them, “What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?”

They stood still, looking sad. 18 Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?”

19 He asked them, “What things?” They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. 21 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. 22 Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, 23 and when they did not find his body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. 24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but they did not see him.”

25 Then he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! 26 Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” 27 Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures.

‘I came down from Heaven’

John 6,41-59

41 At this the Jews there began to grumble about Him because He said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”

43 “Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. 44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. 46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

What is "The True Bread from Heaven"?

John 6,22-40

The Bread from Heaven
22 On the next day the people who remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with His disciples, but that His disciples had gone away alone. 23 However, boats from Tibe'ri-as came near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks. 24 So when the people saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the boats and went to Caper'na-um, seeking Jesus.

25 When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal.” 28 Then they said to Him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom he has sent.” 30 So they said to Him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you perform? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from Heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from Heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which comes down from Heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”

35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me; and him who comes to me I will not cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me; 39 and this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up at the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Today, all things that we having, whether we've been received from our parents,or anyone else...,just be aware that God is the source of all. Therefore, for all things,we need to give God a thanksgiving.

* Just be aware that if one day (supposing),God will want to get back the hands or eyes or brains or anything of our bodies (because we are creatures of God, He has all the powers to maintain or canceling us. Just as when you created the blogs of your own, then you have your right to maintaining them or deleting them according to your wishes, right?),how terrible our fates will be!? Therefore, for all things,we need to give God a thanksgiving, right? (JMHO)

The "defects" of Jesus (Part 9)

(9) Jesus adventure
Jesus,Who conceived the redemptive plan all mankind, intended sending people to go preach the gospel to all nations, all generations, and yet choose and trust and empowerment to Peter,a uneducated fisherman, who had superficial character, plus so timid that would deny God when the time trial of Jesus.
And about how to spread, preaching the kingdom of God as Jesus taught his disciples,"And He said unto them, take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece."(Lk. 9, 3).

Well,Jesus was adventurous in choosing the disciples, and disciples of Jesus, they also doubt Jesus was too adventurous. When Jesus proclaimed His program that He would be caught, killed and resurrected on the third day, they were very upset, "22 As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” (Mt. 17,22- 23), and they were greatly distressed. When Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you."(John 6, 53), the instant His disciples said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” (John 6, 60). And because they felt the teachings of Jesus was grating and too adventure, and then some disciples did withdrew. So Jesus said to the Twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” (John 6, 67).

Another time,"...someone said to Him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” (Luke 9,58)

--> And adventure peak love of Jesus has been described succinctly in Paul's letters that sent congregation Philippians,"Who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but made Himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." (Phil. 2, 6-8)

The "defects" of Jesus (Part 8)

(8) Jesus like crazy
During court in Pilate's palace when that time Jesus was under the test of Pilate,Pilate's soldiers put a red cloak on Jesus, the crown of thorns on His head and mocked Him like Him a madman. Not only outsiders, but even Peter, who was appointed by Jesus that he would be the head of His church ("And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I Will build my church, and the gates of hell shall is not prevail Against it"(Mt. 16, 18),Peter a disciple who Jesus loved and trust as such doesn't bear the words which sounded like Jesus was crazy when He said that He must go to Jerusalem, suffer many suffering by the elders, the chief priests and scribes cause, then killed, and the third day would rise again, therefore Peter did rebuke Him: (21 From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. 22 And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.”(Matt 16,21-22))

How crazy is Jesus called the disciples to follow Him, at the same time, announced He would suffer pain, killed; and more crazy when Jesus said that three days after His death He would revive! Throughout the book pages of Gospel also make us surprised about attitude and His strange words: 27 “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 29 To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. ....”(Lk. 6, 27-31)

How could they listen to those words when the mind of people with the mood ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’!

And I would like to tell you my experience of the message "crazy" of Jesus: When I was many years in prison at homeland, sometimes the prison guard talking to me, they wondering and surprising as they saw my attitude: smiling, friendly to them. They asked me why in the miserable situation in the prison that I could calm and tolerance like! (I had the opportunity to share experiences in the book "Five loaves and two fish" that I just popular for this year). But here I want to say, it is the "foolishness" of God's love for me, for all the "defects" of Jesus made me more passionate; it is "the madness" of Jesus draws me to follow Jesus!(Archbishop Francois-Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan)

--> October 22, 2010 Beatification of Cardinal Francis-Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan was officially begun.

The "defects" of Jesus (Part 7 - Next part)

(Part 7 - Next) >> Luke clearly stated that Mr. Secretary synagogue angry because Jesus had healed on the sabbath: Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.” (Lk. 13,14)

>>He does not keep the law, and the disciples to follow Him did not keep the law: "On the Sabbath, Jesus went across the rice fields, the disciples hands pulling eat rice. But some are super Pharisees said," Why do you not allowed to do during the day Sabbath "(Lk. 6, 1-2). But before this criticism, Jesus replied:" people do all the sabbath "(Lk. 6, 9)

Luke 6:1-9 >

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
6 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and His disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels. 2 Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”

3 Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” 5 Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

6 On another Sabbath He went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched Him closely to see if He would heal on the Sabbath. 8 But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there.

9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”

>> Jesus came to do the whole law, for giving us the new law, which is the law of love, which is the inner dimension of the law, to removing the law explains how a trouble outside the law: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people's bones and all uncleanness. 28 So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.” (Mt. 23, 13-36)

The "defects" of Jesus (Part 6)

(6) Jesus loves dining, partying
Gospel also shows us that every time Jesus came any home, met anyone, especially those who were socially classified as "indecent", He often stayed there and dining with them. He opened the first public preaching mission in the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee (John 2, 1), And in the end, in meeting with His disciples before His Passion approached, that's also a party in Jerusalem, which is called the Last Supper (Mt. 26, 17 and next).

But, was not that along the length of the history of religions and in the minds of many cultures has shown us that when it comes to the divine, morality ..., often it comes to fasting ?

Luke recounts that, after the big party at the house of Levi (ie Matthew later) the Pharisees the teachers of the law said to Jesus: “John’s disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.” (luke 5,33)

The Newness of Jesus makes the Pharisees and we confusing also, but it's all His message: no longer have to be a vegetarian or eat party, but the prerequisite is Love comes from bottom of the heart. As Saint Augustine summarized in a sentence: "Love and do what you do" (quod vis Ama et fac).angel angel

The question: Why Jesus loves dining and partying?

The answer: Jesus used the meal to save sinners.

Luke 5:29-39

29 Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. 30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to His disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Jesus Questioned About Fasting
33 They said to Him, “John’s disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.”

34 Jesus answered, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? 35 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.”

36 He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. 39 And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’”

The "defects" of Jesus (Part 5)

(5) Jesus as a friend to sinners
Not just in Jewish society at the time Jesus lived on earth, but in the our society today, it is difficult to accept "the decent people" to hang out with class was rated as "not decent people".

At that time, compatriot of Jesus notion that two types of people in particular that "not decent" was the tax collectors and sinners, especially the prostitutes. The sins which that time was considered unhealthy for those living body, such as lepers, disabled ... Those Pharisees were repeatedly to make questions about attitude of Jesus, and they were reminded the disciples of Jesus.

11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” (Matthew 9,11)

According to the Gospels record, not just Jesus goes to meet, greet, or reluctantly to be invited to eat, but really he had sought the tax collectors and sinners, made friends with them and eat with them.

Mr. Zacchaeus is the "head of the tax collector" (Lk. 19, 2); when he knew that Jesus would went through the city of Jericho, because worry about he would not be able to jostle with crowds of people, so he ran ahead, climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was very short. And then, when Jesus passed by, looked up at the tree, saw him and Jesus said immediately: “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” (Luke 19: 5).

And to explain the paradox of his attitude, Jesus himself said about his mission, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices. For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” (Matthew 9,12-13)

angel angel angel angel angel

Luke 19:2-10

2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”

8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”

9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

The "defects" of Jesus (part 4)

(4) Jesus did not know how to do the financial economy.
Jesus came to proclaim the Kingdom of God near humans, near their lives. Yet when Jesus introduced the Kingdom of God to His disciples and those who listen to Him, He took parables about the Kingdom of God like the owner of the vineyard do to their workers hired in one day (cf. Mt 20,1-16).
From daybreak the employer hired workers. Then to the 3rd hour, then to the 6th hour, then to the 11th hour; each time He went to hire more workers (the 11th hour in the parlance of the Jews that time, it's the time that near the evening)

That evening, the landowner, the image of Jesus, told the manager to call the workers and pay for each one the same amount. Those who did work many hours in the day showed their upset because they see the boss did not know anything about economics, finance even, but in addition, the boss no matter how well to calculate and righteousness in common.

And then Jesus said,
"Behold you, I am not cheating you. You did not agree with me that a denarius? ... Or because I am generous, you stab of jealousy? What is the last will be first, and the first will be last? ..." (Mt. 20, 13-16).

---> Did Jesus not know how to make the financial economy really?
