Athens: Sibling Donor Born

22-03-2007

A woman from Athens gave birth to a healthy, "designer baby" last Wednesday. The baby will provide blood stem cells to his brother who suffers from chronic granulomatous disease and is the second case of "savior siblings" in Greece.
At delivery, umbilical cord blood was taken to obtain stem cells with which to treat the older sibling. In both cases, the stem cells transplantation will take place in Athens in two months and will be performed by the gynecologist Dr. C. Pantos and the professor of Genetics Dr. C. Pangalos.

i've seen this the umbillical fluid can treat lukemia or genetic defects it's unbelievable how far science has come pretty soon we'll have clones for spare parts. maybe it's not right to fool with destiny ? i don't know everybody wants to live forever now. it's not natural .
Medical science has gone a long way and some may say that has reached its goal already. The question now is will we do what’s necessary in order to be possible for all humanity to benefit from it or will this remain the privilege of the few reach and powerful as it has been for centuries??
right MONEY i watched a documentary on this on many medical related things. it's extremely expensive i don't think poor people or middle income people will benefit from this . they'll be driving to the hospital in a mercedes benz not public transportation think about it if they had money they wouldn't be on the bus.
For sure poor people cant afford something like that.
it's just like anything else housing cars vacations. everybody wants it only a few can afford it. i think medicine hospitals doctors medical research and care should be government run but we see how governments run.laugh i've always said it cash is king that's why kings live longer.laugh cheers
