Umm! i only tell you my own opinion now; I think not all ppl are happy just because they are religios is not the religion who make you happy or unhappy, it is you your own self who have the power to controle to be happy or to be sad.

Lazy is right in a way. Being Religious does not assure that you will be happy in this world. The word religious , means to be dedicated to whatever is undertaken to be done. The word is misused many, many times.{ e.g. The man/woman is very religious in the task ( whatever that may be ). This is the proper meaning of religious.}

Hafiz: To have given your life in a personal relationship with Jesus, I believe this is what you are referring to.

Life is not perfect. It's not always in a constant bliss. We are only human being to experience all sort of emotions and no one in an exemption. Everybody is in pursuit of his/her own happiness.
I go to church regularly and yet something piece of me is still missing. I am happy coz i am materially bless. Happiness is not all about materials. Religion is building your relationship with GOD and finding refuge in GOD.
