What happend to old fashioned - Respect & Courtesy

As a human being, of the female species:) I find a few things of particular human behavior just plain disturbing.

For one, remember when being courteous, kind and just basically a thoughtful person was more the norm than the unusual?

I wonder sometimes if we ever got over the 's*xual revolution', material excess of everything..from the 70's that has taken us to where we are today. There used to be real committed time invested in getting to know others whether it was for freindship or dating reasons. Remember when we used to TALK to our neighbors? Seems like ion's ago doesn't it?

Think about relationships in general - for just a minute. Remember the movie 'The Notebook'? How beautiful was that story..!! The reason it appealed to so many long forsaken, 'eternal romantics'..and was so beautiful, was because we all wish we could have a long enduring and loyal love such as they had. A real one, not a fabricated online chat session with a faceless person.

People give up too quickly these days ..with everything. I think we live in an instant society...IM's to emails, Text messages, cell phones and then better cells phones to text and surf the net even more and become more and more impersonal in our manner of living our lives. It is no wonder we want instant love and become frustrated when it isnt all we thought it would be. Top it off with the fact that we spend way too much time comparing ourselves, our lives, careers to what OTHER people have and dont have. To what they think of us. Where is our self esteem? Tied up in things but not in who we are at our core. What then do we have to offer others with our friendships?

This degrading of our spirit and souls, has been so insidious in nature..with decades of gradual wearing down of our dignity and respect of oursleves and others. It equates to alot of unhappy people-alone and unsatisfied.

Now, on a more global view,we see our country suffering, from the same overindulgences of wants vs.needs - not buying what we can afford but what we WANT. Does anyone out there remember when we had 'lay away' at department stores?? You paid what you could afford, and bought things on time. Today more failed marriages, broken families and debt has taken us to the brink of insanity and we are finally faced with really 'looking' at what we have created of our lives. The old saying 'patience is a virtue'..rings so true. What happened to our human, virtue?

Don't know im thinking the same thing.
Pride??? who knows
There are some good people left in the world
Velvet flower,

Trully we lost all those good virtues in our past, i'm from the Philippines and i felt this changes were attributed to the changes in technology, like what you had mentioned, from love letters sealed with a kiss, now it's an e-mail or text messages,
hardly we could feel the sincerenest or sensation just as we received enveloped letters, hoping there's picture also inside, the last time i had my handwritten letter was in the 80's and i think this decade also was the start of the changes, from the Nat king coles to the tavares, earth wind & fire, blue magic, from Maureen Mcgovern to Madonna, now you can't hardly hear a real nice songs just like songs from the carpenters era, i think they were from california too. So, all this changes are not made overnight, it took decades to change, and we humans are responsible for those changes, and it is up to individuals if they want to live in the past.

I share your compassion, being my country is still way way down
the technology race, we are still lucky to be experiencing such good things that cannot be bought, for we are poor.

Look at Journey the rock band of the 80's, they're back! To
remind us of the happy past, And the frontman is a filipino!

Have a nice day.. california girl
