Halloween lunacy

This year on Halloween I went to the office dressed as a Pink Knight, the inspiration was a co-worker's comment as I headed out to an evening of Rose wine tasting, "Enjoy your pink night". In my smaller city it was difficult to find a medieval costume so I compromised and added some Roman bits.

Why would I want to do this? Whether it is a Celtic, druid, or relatively modern celebration I am not sure where the dress-up part comes from. I did not feel self-conscious, probably because work is a familiar environment, even though I was referred to as the man in the skirt during the judging segment.

Personally, it is not about dressing up, rather it is a chance to be imaginative and also to be able to do the absurd and not be thought a complete fool. I will be changing my profile picture soon, just curious what others feel about this ritual.
