a relief medical team

As per the advice of the President of Sri Lanka, a relief medical team of 23 members consisting of Doctors including specialists and nurses was deployed to assist the survivors of Syper typhoon Haiyan, known as Yolanda in the Philippines. In addition, a stock of essential medicines and medical equipment was deployed to Philippines by the Sri Lankan government. The team functioned at the Eastern Visayas Reginal Medical Center (EVRMC) in the City of Tacloban, one of the worst affected areas by the Typhoon Yolanda. Medical assistance was provided by the team for 2 weeks. Amongst other medical teams from China, Japan, Australia and USA, the contribution made by the Sri Lankan Medical team was much appreciated by Dr. Enrique T. Ona, the Secretary of Health of Philippines and other health authorities, health staff and the People of Philippines,. At the request of the Regional Health Authorities of the Eastern Visayas Region, the Sri Lankan Team members participated in a public health and health facility assessment in the area. Sri Lankan team participated in number of psychosocial activities organized by the EVRMC and the Regional health authorities of the Eastern Visayas Region. This mission was coordinated by the Disaster Preparedness and Response Division of the Ministry of Health, similar missions being organized in the past to assist survivors in disasters in Pakistan, Myanmar and China.
