Inspiring Speech

Today, I listened to President Obama's speech today in Brussels, Belgium. I must admit his speech had a profound impact. The issues he spoke on had a profound meaning and as I write this, I ponder about them. From the crisis in Ukraine to the every day issues we face here in America, I think about each deeply. I must confess that I am a Christian and a Republican, and that I have my morals and values that I stand for. Today, Obama mentioned, "You know, in the end, every society must chart its own course. America’s path or Europe’s path is not the only ways to reach freedom and justice. But on the fundamental principle that is at stake here, the ability of nations and peoples to make their own choices, there can be no going back" Also, he mentioned, "There will always be voices who say that what happens in the wider world is not our concern nor our responsibility. But we must never forget that we are heirs to a struggle for freedom. Our democracy, our individual opportunity only exist because those who came before us had the wisdom and the courage to recognize that ideals will only endure if we see our self-interest in the success of other peoples and other nations." I happen to agree with Obama on every word. I realize that through diplomacy and not force, as a nation we can prosper, and help others prosper. Democracy is another ideal Obama promoted, along with the ideal that all men and women are created equal under God and that it doesn't matter where we come from, who we love, or who we are. As I get older, and listen and understand, I see how many issues has alot to do with my faith. My faith tells me that we should not judge based on their race, or yet what sins(lifestyles) a person chooses to live. It also tells me that we should love one another just as Jesus loves us. Jesus looked past my sins and accepted me. Because of that, I chose to change and live for Christ. What am I saying in all of this? I'm saying, Love is how we change people, and through love and diplomacy we can change the world.
