What A Drab Existence!!

This is my first blog. I have been a member for several weeks. To date I have been contented only to read the blogs. Now I want to try my hand at it.

I am at work at this haunting hour. Doing the first of 4 night shifts. I work 12 hour shifts. Then I will be off for 4 days to return for 4 day shifts followed by another 4 days at home. And so the cycle repeats. I could tell you that I am the security manager but that is what everybody will tell you, therefore I will stick to being a security officer. It is more interesting and then nobody can call me a liar.

Our job is not to keep the premises safe. There are perimeter guards to do that. We are here to see that the company’s assets don’t abscond via our delivery trucks. The company packs meat and other fresh produce for supermarkets. Every now and again somebody is caught stealing something but they keep trying. I’m not complaining. It keeps me in a job.

When I work night shift I usually have a lot of time to spare. When I work dayshift it is a bit busier with bosses in and out all the time. Think about it! Another three shifts and I will be at home for 4 days again. That is the part of the job I like most. More than half my shift is done and in a few hours I will be in bed. Maybe CS will make the rest of the night shorter.

Next time I will tell you what I do on my off days. I have to go now but will drop in from time to time before I go home in about five hours.

Hi Namaron. A nightmare? Is it that bad? That is why I prefer to work nightshidt. No nightmares. They are easier to ride in the day.

Peter, my philosofy, How do you spell that, rolling on the floor laughing
is that I rather have people laugh at me, than cry for me.
If you make a blunder and we all do at times, it is amazing how soon people forget until it is the next persons turn
rolling on the floor laughing

BC, that already makes me feel much better after all the typing errors in my first response. I think this one is a better effort.

I have had many jobs with such a shift. I find it isn't bad at all, especially if you do 3 on, 1 off, 1 on, then 2 off. What I hate is when it is days one week, then nights the next week and so on. I much prefer one or the other and can effectively plan around that. Also adjustment of my bio-rhythms is easier when there is little change.
Night shift doh
but best of luck on this site wave
Hi K19, It is the 12 hour shifts that gets me down. On the other hand, in this way you work your 48 hours per week in 4 days iso 6 days making the 4 days off possible. At first it may seem that we are at home a lot but we work about the same hours as most people.

Hi IW. I prefer night shift. In 3 hours from now, at 6am, I will be heading for home and I will have until 11 am to go about my business and other chores before going to sleep. Plenty of daylight at home with this job.
