sweetowen: I'm fine. Played hookie yesterday... don't tell the boss!
Everybody needs to play once in a while. This is part of life. Since I am retired I don't get to do it anymore. I have to go to work to accomplish the same feeling. Weird huh?
sweetowen: How's the Gulf Coast this morning? I always loved looking out at the water in the morning!! BEAUTIFUL!
It is going up to about 70 today. The morning at day break starting with a beautiful mist over the golf course. No wind. Silence with only the sound of the sun coming through the trees to form wonderful shades of light. The waters of Fort Bayou River are calm leading out to the Gulf of Mexico.

How is the Gulf Coast today: Fantastic!!!
One thing I miss is those BEAUTIFUL oak trees with the moss hanging from them!!
Funny story... when my brother & I drove up the road to the VA, it was lined with oaks & pretty pink bushes. I always had to yell, "Run Forrest, run!!" My brother would just laugh. It got to the point that if I didn't do it, he'd give me a funny look!

If you are going to be a "southern belle" you have to enjoy the magnolia trees. Almost all of the oak trees are back to their former glory before the hurricane. One thing that has improved the coast is that the dead oak trees on the beach highway has been cut into works of art. A local artist is volunteering and working six days a week for free and designing the trunks into birds, owls, eagles, whales, etc. The tourist love it. They are fantastic. Check out this link. Look down and you will see one picture of the oak tree work.

sweetowen: I enjoyed & miss everything down there. Hey, did they rebuild Beauvoir? Luckily, I went there right before Katrina!
It has re-opened for what is being called "Disaster Tours". The outer structure look the same, if not better. The inside is mostly finished and looks better than before. This Spring the out buildings are being re-built. All of them were totally destroyed. Only the main home made it thru the hurricane. The cemetary has been fixed up and now the garden it being worked on. So the bottom line is the Beauvoir is more beautiful than before and by mid-summer it will be fantastic.
