I may have moved to the States, but my nationality will always be British/Irish. I am proud of those roots, and although I may start to take on a American "twang" in time, as my sister has done after several years of living here, I will never lose my accent of birth and would never want to. I am teased here about certain words I say, or the way I pronounce certain things, but it is all in good faith, and someone the other day specifically wanted me to speak to them just to hear my accent..
In answer to the OP, I dont know why. I can only assume it comes down to trying to be accepted quicker, or easier, or because they are somehow thinking that unless they adopt the accent, they will not be a true "American", or a true native of whatever adopted country they have decided upon.
Suicide Muscle bombers of the religous "Clam" sect have attacked a fish cleaning rock in the deep Alantic....Pres. Fishbreath Sardine has condemed this action on innocent fish
It is now clear that President Fishbreath Sardine of the artic Puffin party has accepted the Nobel Peace Prize...there is mixed feelings about this across the sea.He was elected less than ten months ago in Anarctica and some question as to whether he was even born on the ice shelf has been rumoured.
Hi Jan yes I see you point ...it seemed a bit condesending to me is all as we all do know that many large cities in the states have much to offer in the fields you have meantioned ...but I will lieve it as it is as I do not wish to ruin an otherwise nice thread about America ....this is a very rare creature on CS don't you think
"Even with the common language shared between some of us, the American culture is poles apart from the culture we share in general in Europe, even taking into account the differences between the States."
Exactly what does this mean....it seems that you are impling that Americans are not on the same level of culture as our friends across the pond ...perhaps I have taken this wrong.
I guesss i am just in a very serious mood today ...but anyway.....I think you NEED to have your heart broken at least once if not a few times ....it is in reality an good thing...this way you will learn or at least you should learn how to handle anothers heart......a bit off topic here but,I feel the same about jail....it is something IMO everyone should experiance in some form....it is not a good feeling when those doors slam shut and you know you cannot leave...they both are a very hard lesson to learn...but experiance is a great and wonderful teacher
Thats great that you feel that way .....I personally am not now or ever was or most likly ever will be proud of any of the leaders of our country....they all have done good and wonderful things while in office and most I think have done some very bad things while in office..(If not all of them)...And it is not just any one country eather..it is all relative as to who you are and how you view the actions of said leader.....I support our leaders whoever they are and whatever they do....I don't alway agree. Lets face it there is not a single person on these forums that knows "EVERYTHING" the leaders of the world know....so to really pass judgement on things they do is not really a fair thing to do as the saying goes "Do not judge till you walk a mile in thier shoes" ....but the reality is we all do judge and always will...
the first part of your post is correct, he has been on office for 8 months and he has not started any wars to date( Altho Iran is not looking very good in Obama's eyes)As far as "Having to go around the world to make up to people Bush insulted is false....He "CHOOSE" to do that it was not something he needed to do nor was it something I think most Americans wanted him to do....
Gary nothing personal Ole boy ...but you seem to bash one country for a week or two(USA) and after you tire of us you are now heading a bit southwest it seems( I must say that the Aussies do come out a bit more than we do to stand up for thier country...good on ya'll by the way) It is just a shame that some have to bash anothers country to find self worth in themselves(Gary I personally did not see your OP as really bashing the Aussies however)
Maybe he should have it maybe not....I would like to know (if anyone could tell me) how DO they pick who wins and also. Who is it that does the picking....Not a Nixion fan nor do I hate him(he got caught doing what they all do) got us out of Viet Nam....did he get a prize for that? Kennedy got us into Nam..but is seen as one of the greatest(Is he great because of what he did for America, like equality for Blacks or because he was shot)..but stopped the Cuban missile deal ...that was pretty peace keeping I think....Just how do they say what is "Peace Keeping" and what is not....Dropping the A-bomb a couple times killed a lot of people....but it ended the war in the Pacific...so was that "Peace keeping"
It is like this Gary us Americans for the most part do not see terrorist as Muslims...they come in all colors and all religions ,case in point the Oklahoma Bombing with Timothy McVie,and that Nichols guy....They where American and even served in the armed forces....but the world seems bound to stereo type us from a few,or perhaps news items...
well it has been raining a lot here but the temps have been very mild indeed.....Northern NY in the fall is a beautiful site ...but it does mean snow on the why however Have fired the wood stove a couple times already.....but the coffee is good and hot
It is a great thing to bring awareness to this affiction and thought I would add this as well.....Male breast cancer is real and can be just as dangerous as breast cancer in women. It is expected that over 1,000 men will be diagnosed with male breast cancer each year. Because men often wait to report the symptoms of male breast cancer, the disease is more likely to have spread, leaving many men with less hope that treatment will lead to recovery.......Please do not wait to see your Doctor if you think something is wrong.....
