Earlier today, a Coup D'Etat of the Yellow Eye Penguin Party in alliance with the Chinstraps to overthrow the long time regime of the Alliance of the King and Emperor Penguins took place..
It appears that a new tax on fishing rights around the Northern Ice Shelf has recently been passed through the Senate by the Emperor/King Alliance. The UN has considered deploying a Peace Keeping Force to the region. It is rumoured that the Erect Crested Penguin Extreme Right Party has been in secret talks with the Arctic Puffins, who have for many years been attempting to colonise the Northern Shelf. These negotiations are still only at boardroom level at present. However,there are talks of a P7 Summit in Geneva, (global warming allowing) later in the fall.
The local Rockhoppers and their long time allies, the Macaronis are aggrieved regarding the Arctic Puffins' ability to fly, and consider that this mobility in the skies gives them an unfair advantage as regards air supremacy, therefore unstabilising the political status quo.
The Erect Crested Penguins have of course, been long working toward this alliance in the hope that the Yellow Eyed Penguin Party will in fact weaken the current regime and allow them themselves to grab power and obtain a position of greater strength as regards fishing rights.
Most of the lesser known republic penguins (Fijordland, African and Galapagos) consider that the terms "Emperor and King" are somewhat arrogant and consider the cultural differences to be untenable. This, in itself places the political stability of the entire Ice Shelf in jeporady..
The Gentoos Penguin Party have been reported as having been refining Uranium at a very high rate, and are rumoured to be close to achieving the ability to construct a nucleur warhead.

Non compliance of these ultimatums will allegedly resort in the Japanese Whaling Fleet to be put on Defcon 1...
To complicate matters further, the African Penguins have been reported to be hijacking cargo ships and holding their captains and cargo for ransom..
