It was a long time ago but it really did happen. We saw it in the movies, newsreels, newspapers, and some of us actually lived during the time when:
- There were air raid drills when I was in school. I had to get under my desk at the sound of a siren
- At night my parents pulled the shade and curtains to create a "blackout"
- People built bomb shelters in their basements
- "I remember when" I had to walk to school in 4 feet of snow. Young people hear that all the time and they laugh. It was unheard of for your parents to drive you to school when I was a youngster
- My mother washed my hair with egg shampoo and rinsed it with vinegar to make it shine
Duh on me. Only half way through first cup of coffee.
You are the same age as my daughter so you don't remember years ago when a snow storm really was a snow storm. You're in the Carolinas now .....don't know if you've always been there....but the south didn't get snow like we did in the north. I can still vividly see myself shoveling snow before my father went to work.

Italy101: My grandmother still has the first alarm clock and television in her attic! and they still work! She is 93 yrs old. Born on Christmas day!
I'm surprised that they still work. They made quality things in the "good 'ol days". Proof is your grandmother is still alive and kicking. God bless her.
I remember my grandfather talking about being over in Germany in WWII. And my Papa and I used to take long walks in Troy, NY when we'd visit there. During those he would tell me what it was like there when he was growing up. We talked about all kinds of things.
But no, no real memories of the types of things you mentioned in your OP, Snuggs. Nobody in my family really did that.
hey i 've got 4 kids' 14 grandkids' and 16 greatgrand kids so it's my turn to say i remember when and the younger ones look in awe and don't believe it' the big joke is i took my drivers test in a covered wagon
