They said they were bringing the protest forward to support the workers on the ICTU action day. But the action day has been cancelled, so are they still going ahead.

Most of their actions just piss off the general public.

well i never had a lot of sympathy for taxi drivers , there was a time dey did extremely well from the general public...

However , PSV's are been given out like sweets at the minute , flooding the market , i think there are probably more taxis here than New York...

What is really irrating me is getting a taxi , when the driver hasnt a clue where they are going , apparently if your from another country you dont have to do as well in your exam for the PSV mumbling

I dont know if the test is easier on Non-Irish but when I did mine I had to find my way all over Cork City without Sat Nav. But then, it was a long time ago.

In Cork I have no prob helping with direction in a Taxi. Obviously the same isnt true in areas I`m unfamiliar with.

another thig to watch for again foreign drivers if you look at the meter you have the digits for the fare and the automatic time change under this to the left denoting the slight charge for say bank hol or sunday 3 foreign drivers recently caught doing this the max numer should be only "2" for extra charge but these drivers seeming had it at "3" which is not ment to happen so take note of reg and plate when hireing

I knew it rolling on the floor laughing

Does the advanced course cover blocking traffic while letting passengers out, changing lane without indicating, honking the horn rather then using brakes?

Fraya: I `ve been ripped off by Irish drivers...especially on a Sun morning after a Sat night out. I call them on it and sometimes get satisfaction. I dont mean to sound complacent but its a culture we`ve developed and accepted around ourselves.
how so ripped off ? all you have to do is know how much a fare usually costs as in most cases people go to the same places eg nite clubs , pubs , and should already know how much it would cost within a euro or two

shadowlord69: a company i worked with for ten years before my present job had a certain amount of foreign lads working for us and as in the last post of mine 3 drivers for 1 car this was one of them people with a different name or as we say "AKA"s

and they are getting away with it, its unreal
the stories my dad tells me about them is just mad,
He got a passenger a while back and the guy was tellin him that he had got into a foreigners taxi enroute to the airport the taxi pulled into a garage, this wast the intended stop or anything, driver got out and another foriegner in a dublin bus uniform got into the drivers seat and took over the fare, passenger got out of the cab as son as the car came to set of traffic lights and never paid

Sundays are classified as a bank holiday so the rates go up after 12 on a saturday nite.

The charge varies according to the time of day (late nights cost more) Given the variations in distance, albeit 2 to 10 miles from town centre and an assumption on the part of the driver that i may not know the fare from town centre, and also the amount of alcohol he/she assumes as an influence, ripping off is an option

well that may be the difference between me and you i take that into account so as not to be scammed also will advise the driver which route i want to take as is your right as you are paying the fare
