I am heading over to the land of queens later in the month for the first time. I want to know your favourite places to visit. Things to look out for and any quirky stories you may have would be great

I love Far North Queensland, I lived in Cairns for quite some time and I loved it. Plenty to see and do with great day trips up to the Atherton Tablelands, Mareeba and Kuranda on the scenic railway or cable car. Plenty of waterfalls, rivers and lakes created within volcanic crators. Check out the Great Barrier Reef, go out on the Big Cats or sail out to Low Isles to go scuba diving or snorkelling.

Or The Whitsundays are magic, go to Airlie Beach and go out to the islands. I have been to most and they all offer something different.

I have 3 weeks to spare though might only stay for 2. I have only booked a flight over and a hotel on the gold coast for a week at this stage. I will be heading north from there I plan to visit Mackay and Townsville. Other than that pretty much winging it.

Any reason for the Mackay and Townsville visits? They aren't really tourist meccas. Townsville is not too bad and they have Magnetic Island but it left a lot to be desired the last time I was there. Not a bad place to live but for tourists it is a bit ordinary.

Im sure I will have a ball thanks Ralf. Im not just looking for things for me to do but what others have loved about the state as well. I spent a few years travelling all over WA with work so I know a few weeks will never be long enough to see all the best parts.

I live on the Coast so know alot.

Springbrook is fantastic there are walking tracks i think a 2km, 3km, and 8km, through the main national park. If you've got a car I highly recommend it. Its just beautiful relaxing heaps of waterfalls etc.

If you're a wine buff then Mt Tambourine has lovely shops as well as some great wineries.

Actually GC hinterland has some great wineries - Cedar Creek, and Thumb Estate spring to mind.

The theme parks are always good, I have a year pass to Dreamwold and don't regret buying it at all.

All the beaches are nice but my favourite is Currumbin.

You could go to Currumbin wildlife sanctuary - again if you're into that stuff.

Hmmm....

Any more Q's on restruants or anything PM me - would be happy to help.

=)
