No, because regulation at some level is needed to prevent certain human actions, the point is that government action ie: legislation should not determine who succeeds or fails and conversely, regulation should also not be used as a vehicle to determine who succeeds or fails. Regulation is only to prevent extreme actions and those in the business know what the rules are going into whatever business. This time around we took away the regulation (repeal of Glass/Stegall) and congress neglected to put any restrictions on anything to replace those contained in the regulations they repealed.

rodolpho: Bjeses you sound like a politician,I'm just a simple civilian ok?

Glass/Steagal was regulation put into place in 1933 during FDR (one of the few things I agreed with him on) this prevented banks from owning any interest in insurance companies or brokerage firms. It also prevented brokerage firms and insurance companies from owning banks. Associated rules(FDIC etal) prevented banks from using derivitives and had specific requirements for reserve capital on all loans. With Graham, Leach,Bliley (repeal of Glass/Steagal) in 1999, most all of those regulations ceased to exist and we had a financial free for all. Banks were buying insurance companies and brokerages and vice-versa. That's why I left regulation out of statement #6.
