Some do not post a pic for personal reasons, whether it be they don't have a scanner, digital camera. for family reasons, job security etc.

Not everyone is here to Advertise themselves and its not just women that chose not to show a photograph.
Also people do it for personal reasons which I can respect as its their choice.

Hi Dru, that sounds all very noble etc, but if someone needs that Grrrr factor, outer beauty in addition to inner then it could be a heck of a waste of their time, and what if they were liers anyway. At least a picture ( current one ) is an honest start.
to OP, others have already explained some reasons for no picture being shown, they are in the minority so just move on and ignore, plenty more fish to see if that's what you need first.

Exactly. And I don't care if they're beautiful/handsome outside if it turns out the inside is ugly.But, to each their own. If you have to have eye candy first, then restrict your search to only those who have pictures.

I actually never thought of it this way.
But you are so right:
with conventional dating you have no other choice but seeing a physical appearance first and you get to know them after, gradually... but rejections are common anyway, even if their appearance is to your liking. Because of all the other incompatibilities.
Why not the other way around?
I never tried talking to a person without seeing their face, but might be even fun.
We all do it in forums after all if we like their personality.

even at that, it is kind of nice to know who you are speaking to even on the forums. I have avoided cameras for years, however, i felt that if i would like to see photos of others, it would be hypocritical of me not to put one up as well.
Can understand the reasons why some don't though.
