Tater: Thanks.. I was going to use the rest of the diapers I have now up and once I see that she will pee in the pot, I am planning on switching to pull ups until I know she is trained.. again thanks...
I am a father of three boys, not one of them potty trained the same age, length of time, and number of regressions (this is the fun one). The best I can tell you is patience and remember, I have yet to meet an 18 year old not potty trained, so it will happen in its own time. Oh and night time potty training can sometimes but not always occur at the same time. BTW I have many tricks for teaching boys, girls I am as clueless as anyone.
BClady: How's the potty training going tater? Is she there yet or still working on it?
Kinda of a long story, her mom just started wanting to keep her 50% of the time now, and isn't trying to potty train her, she thinks it's too early, so well, in a nutshell, if I keep trying here, and her mom doesn't do the same thing... I'm afrain we may be sending her mixed signals so I'm kinda holding off on it for another month or so... (that is the short of it..) but thanks for asking hun.... she just turned 21 months so by the time she turns 2 the process will be in progress..

She sounds like a smart chicky to have given you the hint that she was ready. I'll tell you a secret; (moms don't know everything). Believe me, I raised two girls of my own and I'm still learning from them.
SensualVixen: I have heard it takes longer with girls than boys. No nozzle to hold on to, I guess, so not as much fun to pee pee. Although I have heard now big boys still love to play with their nozzles and want us girls to join in and play firemen with them..........
It takes longer for boys because they have 2 muscles to control while girls uses one muscle for everything. The boys sometimes getconfused trying to figure out which muscle is working.

you mean wasn't..??
It a longer story but basically I feel I will be confusing her, if I keep trying to train her right now.. but I do beleive my daughter is ready to start training, she knows when her went potty and takes her diaper off and gets another one out... so she knows enough about it.. but just waiting a bit longer to avoid contradition in training lets say...
Tatr I have a board with all of the kids I have taken care of including mine. I counted 250 the other day, and I have potty trained most of them. Just be patient, and encourage her. You headed in the right direction.

I only have experience in this area with a boy. I thought I was so smart by making it a fun thing to do. It was during the summer so if we were outside I would just tell him to go water the tree. This theory worked great until we at a friends house and caught him going on the mail box ... or at the grocery store, going on the side of the building.
Well I did manage to teach him quickly not to go in a diaper but had to retrain him to use the toilet.

Yeah when we are little it is a toy to us.........OK OK OK...... It is always a toy to us..
I admire dads like him, who are willing to take on this and other responsibilities when it comes to their children. I lived through the age of "deadbeat dads", but can see a positive shift within the last ten years. More and more young men/single dads taking responsibility for their children. It warms my heart when I see young men, some barely out of highschool, pushing the stroller or taking their children to daycare so they themselves can attend class.
In response to: I decided that I was going to start potty training my daughter this weeK, and though I know it takes different lengths of time, depending on the child, I was just curious (a ball park figure) what has been your experiences, as to the length of time it took to potty train your kids... and any helpful advice would be appreciated....
She was born 2 months early, and She will be 21 months old in about a week, I waited this long thinking that if I tried at to young of an age, that it might only confuse her...But for the last 2 months she always runs and gets a diaper after she goes to the bathroom, and I let her take the diaper off(only if it is pee) then she will wipe herself and help me put the clean diaper on her...and she does a pretty good job of dressing herself.. SO I figure she has enough understanding about it, to go ahead and start with the potty training... Today was the first day, and well.... she would go to the bathroom then take her clothes off and then sit on the pot, but like I said it is after she has already gone to the bathroom
I was figuring I could get her potty trained within about a week...but I don't want to expect it from her.. Is a week a long enough time or should it only take 3 or 4 days?????? Or does it usually take longer????Your thoughts
What am i doing here . No too sure. My husband died 2 years ago and here I am a grandmother. I potty trained my son in one day. I found a book in the local library entitled HOW TO POTTY TRAIN YOUR CHILD IN ONE DAY. In the book you used a doll that you could give a baby bottle to and it would wet. I read it and tryed it. It worked My son went from untrained to trained in a week. You used the doll as an example. You fed your child something to make him thirty like chips and gave him anything he would drink all the while talking about the doll and saying that the doll (Besty Wetsy in our case) was a big boy because he used the potty. You put your child on the potty and when he peed you gave him praise for being a big boy. The book is proably not around but it worked for me. Maybe my son was just ready and anyting would have worked. That was about 27 years ago. Reading all the replies brought back a lot of memories. I wish I was back there training my son all those many years ago. My son and daughter in law are trying to train thier daughter. Maybe I should tell them about the book. Good luck with training your daughter. Just be patience whatever method you use.
